  • GDS - Build Up - 2009 D4D GXL

Well the old 90 series RV that served us well for almost 10 years is off to a new home.

We picked up our new GXL D4D auto last week and thought I'd start a build up post.

Not as keen as some of you on here but I'll be adding a few things to make our outdoor experiences even better.

Well here it is, the family truckster, in off the shelf form

Drove straight from the Toyota dealer and had the tyres changed over to Cooper ST's. First mod was the cutting board spacer for the rear wheel carrier (modded after this photo)

    Sandgrabber mats all round

    New plates

    1st mod

ARB recovery kit, Snatch, deflator, shackles, damper.

    In the pipeline

    Ordered

    - Heavy Duty Hayman Reece tow bar

Things that I am ready to install

    - CouplerTec rustproofing.

    That's it for now

Thanks guys, my wallet is reaching it's limit but my wish list isn't!

Got to love white, I keep my cars for a while and have always found white to be the most durable.

Picked up the Sand Grabbers from the manufacturer, Queensland Moulded Car Carpets http://www.qmcc.com.au

Great service, faxed off the order form one day and delivered the next.

                    Re: GDS - Build Up - 2009 D4D GXL

Had a productive weekend and carried out a few mods.

Not quite finished a little tidying up still required.

Stebel Compact truck horn- boy these are loud

CouplerTec electronic rust proofing - Installed a contact pad on the LHS of the firewall and behind the RHS tail light.

Tekonsha P3 trailer brake controller installed in the glovebox - Was hard to find an unobtrusive spot

Anderson Plug for our 3 way chescold fridge - Installed in the 3rd row junk collecting tray. Large cross sectional area wiring to reduce the voltage drop. Absorption fridges work best with the higher possible terminal voltage.

Prado Point sticker - Complements of Wengnuts - Thanks heaps

Just need to tap into the accessory wiring and install a relay to control the rear Anderson plug. I only want the fridge to be powered up whilst the car is running.

I have put together a fuse panel as well which runs all the new accessories.

                      Good work GDS,
Coming along real nice. How hard was the brake controller to install - I bought one over the weekend, expecting delivery this weekend. I also have a look on PP for any install instructions, but just wanted to know if it is a DIY job.

                      Cheers

                        Hi Andy

Love the car and tinkering. Hoping to get it off road soon.

Controller was fairly easy to install the hardest part is working how to pull the dash and bits and pieces apart. (This site helps heaps)

I was not happy with the position in the glovebox and have just relocated it to the ashtray spot. The traffic regs say that the controller is to be in reach of the driver.

Make sure you use a cable with a good cross sectional area especially from the positive to the controller and the controller output to the brake pin on the trailer socket.

I ran the cables through the LHS fire wall and used the cableway under the door sill panels to run the cables to the rear. I also picked up the brake light connection from the rear as well as this was easier to find than the brake switch.

I just need to make up an escutcheon panel to fill in the void around the controller to finish it off.

                        Good luck with your install

Took the camper out for the first time with the new rig.

Towed like a dream, very happy, was only just over an hour each way though.

Suspension dropped a bit with the CT on, might be a good excuse for a suspension upgrade.

                            Thoughts?
