  • Gooses 2006 D4D Manual

Well lads this is my first post here so hi to all . I recently decided to sell my 4.2TD patrol (With some encouragement from the wife who hated driving the "tank" as she called it) so I have now become the proud new owner of the 2006 D4D Manual. I'm in the Cairns area and I know of a few prado owners on here already so I look forward to coming out on some trips to see just how capable these prados are :P Had the car for two days now and I got to say its a pleasure to drive and the standard power is pretty impressive also. Mods to happen straight away will be:

    1. Two new all terrains as it only came with all terrains on the front and h/way terrains on the rear. Will eventually get coopers or mickey T's when they wear down.
    2. Move the uhf from the patrol to the prado
    3. Snorkel
    4. Bash plates
    5. lift
    6. some sort of EASILY REMOVABLE roof rack (Again the wife)

Then I will try and cut down my outback draws from the patrol to fit in the prado, DP chip, exhaust and front and back lockers when I recoup some funds. Please feel free to offer advice and so on as I have not yet decide what brand snorkel or bash plate to get.
    Cheers
    Dan

            Re: Gooses 2006 D4D Manual

Righto the dealer warranty on the Prado is up this weekend so i am starting the build up on the new toy. The reason i waited until the warranty was up was because i was not to happy with the after sales service and wanted to make sure they weren't going to reject anything due to mods.
Case in point was when I signed the contract to buy it i noticed the bolts in the rear part of the roof channel were missing due to the previous owner removing the roof rack, asked them to replace and was told all good. The day I picked it up it was pouring down and you guessed it, no bolts and water running straight into the cargo area. Placed some electrical tape on it for a temporary fix as I had to wait 3 days for the detailer to return. Picked it up again and the idiot just glued the plastic cap over the tape with no bolts. Left it there again and finally got the bolts in, but as soon as it rained it leaked!! This was one of 3 or 4 minor issues but overall i am quite happy with the prado, just not happy with the quality of work from the dealer.

Anyway I bought some roof rails off ebay to 1. fix the leaking and 2. Will use the clamp on rhino bars and either platform or alloy tray for the roof rack. Wanted one that was easily removed between camping trips.

Also as we live in the tropical north I picked up an ironman snorkel today and some breather extensions for the diffs, transfer and gearbox. Will fit these the week after next.

Then I just have to sort out the lift. Still deciding what set up I want to run. I want to have load carrying for camping trips but still want a smooth ride. Thinking airbags in the rear but due to the IFS I was thinking of fitting coil retainers and drop out cones on the rear to give it more flex in the rear but not sure if I can still run airbags?

            Will keep you posted anyway.

                Hi Goose99

Have you fitted the Snorkel yet, can you tell me what the part code of the snorkel you have is as I have just ordered one that only list the 1KZ engine and the petrol engine on the install manual.
If you have it fitted can you post some photos.
                Thanks
