  • Moyley's 2002 VX Prado 3.4L

    Hey all!

    Just posting up finally!

I've recently acquired a new vehicle, a 2002 Toyota Prado VX 3.4L V6. Its great, love it so far!

That is how I purchased it, and so far its like that until someone buys my ute!
As you can see its quite standard but hopefully not for long!

    The plan is....
    50mm lift Lovells Springs/Bilstein Shocks
    265/75R16 Wrangler Duramax Tyres
    IronMan 4x4 Steel Bullbar
    Remote Face Uniden UHF
    RFI UHF Antenna
AGM 48" Second Battery on TJM Battery Tray
Two fuse blocks under the dash
Home made draws for 40L Engel
    Sureflow Water Pump + tank
    BlueTongue compressor
Fuse block in the back as well.

Thats the extent at this stage..

I'm sure I'll extend it at this stage! Any addition thoughts on great mods or suggestions are appreciated!
Also, I'm from Rockingham here in Western Australia, if there is any other locals that want to catch up feel free to contact me!

    Cheers all!

Wow Moyley, you've been doing some planning there - that's a long list! Are these mods things you've had experience with in the past?

What sort of tank will you be connecting to the Sureflow pump?

      Re: Moyley's 2002 VX Prado 3.4L

      Hey!

I'm only 20 (21 on Friday!) but I'm moving on from a 2002 Hilux 3L-TD and I'm part of two clubs. I've seen a fair few vehicles and worked out what I am after!

I've got a few compromises. Because its got rear air-con I can't mount a conventional cargo barrier so I've got to fabricate something off the back of the draws I haven't made yet!

Regarding the water tank, it will be a tank between the seats and the drawers or two separate containers strapped down. From everything I've got from everyone pressurised water is one of the biggest bonus!

Another thing I might add, is this will be over a long time as I'm broke!
I also know Prado4x4 (John) from here in WA. Not sure if he is still a member but had a rear locked 90Series TD!

Sussing out a few things as well all!

        Any recommendations on bullbars?
I was looking at an all black Ironman 4x4 bullbar but after doing some research the mounting points are apparently rubbish?
I would love an ARB or TJM bar but for the price can't afford it.. Unless someone knows of some old stock or a second hand job?

I looked at the ECB jobs but don't know about the mounting points etc?

Also, if I do a Lovell's 50mm lift will 285/75R16's fit? I can't find a definitive answer on the forums no matter how hard I look! Although to be honest, when it comes to it 265/75R16s will probably be enough.

Any information from all is appreciated!

Yep - I'm still about. Just by changing vehicles, they can't get rid of me that easily. 8)

285's (33") won't fit unless you want to either start cutting away metal at the front (wheel arch isn't big enough towards the
front doors), or do a body lift - which you can't legally do if you've got airbags. You'll have plenty of ground clearance with the
265's (32") on a 90 series anyhow. They're not as low as the 120 series to begin with from memory

              You are probably right John!

265/75R16 should be ample with what I'm after.

Might need to take you up on the offer to mount a snorkel!

I promise in the new year we'll catch up and I'll shout you a bevvy or two. Hope work has been going well.

                  Welcome aboard Moyley,

I have the same model so i know you will enjoy your new toy.

Ausguard make a cargo barrier to fit with the rear air, they also I believe make a half barrier too so you can have rear drawers with barrier.

I just modified my full barrier when I fitted my rear drawers so you have a couple of options.

                  Have fun

                    Hi Moyley,
Yep Ausguard do a barrier. Accounts for the rear air con.

                      Hey all!

Just have a few questions I'm hoping can be answered. I know I should probably make a thread for each question but thats just spamming each section of the forum.

                      1. What is the recommended/optimal temperature for the 3.4L V6 to run at? With my 1KZ-TE Hilux 95C was the ceiling before risking the head cracking, what are we looking at with this motor?

                      2. I took my glove-box out over the break hoping to find a nice cavity to mount two fuse boxes and my remote face UHF unit. Alas when I opened it I found a heap of stuff there! What are peoples thoughts/suggestions (photos even better!) to mounting this stuff for the dash. I'm looking at UHF, Stereo, Temp Gauge, Volt Gauge, GPS +++ so fuse boxes will make like easier. Any information people can provide is appreciated.

                      3. Any quick way of making the false indicators real?

                      4. Do Safari Snorkels fit my V6 with the electric aerial as they are on the same side?

I think thats it for now, any information people can provide is greatly appreciated! Hope everyone had a good break and/or Christmas!

I ended up purchasing the Ausguard cargo barrier!

I'll fit it with the old man next weekend I hope, should be a good fit!

Need to pay some of the car off before the stereo I think!

If anyone does have input on the previous questions it is appreciated!

                            Hi Moyley.

I have had a 2001 V6 GXl from new. When I fininsh work in a couple of weeks, I plan on posting my own rig build up with lots of pictures. These should answer most of your questions. For a water tank I ended up with the Opposite lock 50l slimline tank (Product code: WTP50V) . These fit perfectly behind the rear seat, match in coolour to the interior can be stacked together, and make use of otherwise wasted space. I have made all of the rear lights work with the addition of LED's and globe holders.

                              Hey all!

                              A little quiet unfortunately..

                              I've arranged:
                              Ausguard Cargo Barrier - Installed
                              2nd Battery Tray - Installed
                              Redarc
                              Circuit Breaker - 80A
12 circuit fuse box (Blue Sea)

I'm hoping to wire up the 4GA cable up this weekend, get the second battery at a later date.

Quick query though, I've heard of a rumor of getting a part. I want to wire up my spotlights but the trigger wire is my problem, the H4 connector is impossible to wire to when my previous HiLux I could attach it from the back. Also the loom wire is tiny and very very short so too hard to come from that, also hate cutting the wiring loom.

Can you get a H4 plug-in with the trigger wire coming off it? I believe IPF might possibly have one? Any information is appreciated!
