Yup, I leave mine covering the first wrap, however in the ARB bar the rope is pretty well covered anyway. I got mine here http://www.bogong.com.au/html/bags__rop ... atfor.html they had a roll of it you could buy per metre.

Looking good Andrew, you must be pretty close to being fully loaded by now!

Im sure you'll have a blast with the winch install.

I wouldn't say pretty close, but getting closer. I still have a fair bit to do. Got some more custom projects in the pipe line so stay tuned

This isn’t a new mod, in fact I have had it since almost day 1. It's one of those things that seems so insignificant that I didn't think it was worth mentioning.
However! I have been trawling around in the electrical section researching numerous things that I hope to add in the months ahead. During my reading I kept coming across comments like "just gotta find room on the battery terminal for one more wire" now I realize that there are a few options with fancy terminals and distribution blocks but here is another that i have not noticed on anyone else’s Prado, although I am sure others must have done the same.

For accessories running of the cranking battery i simply spliced 4 wires together, crimped and then soldered on a heavy duty eye and then ran power from the inlet of the fuse box! I ran this to an auxiliary fuse box, and distribute power from there to spotlight relays and the like.

This rig just keeps getting better and better.

The customised parts look better than anything you could find in a shop, and the workmanship is top notch.

Love it! It's one of those 'now why didn't I think of that' mods

I just checked mine and it appears to be live 12V at all times. Something to consider if you're running accessories off it.

Thats correct, the positive lead from the battery runs to the starter motor but also branches off to the fuse box. So in affect it is exactly the same as connecting directly to the battery terminal. Its a fairly decent sized cable from the battery to here so most accesories should be no problems. My wires to the dual battery and my winch will be connected directly to the battery terminal. Things such as my Compressor, i have hooked up from the Auxillery side of my battery isolater so no chance of flattening the cranking battery.

You were one of the people who commented on not having any room left on the battery terminal D4D, Chippy is another that comes to mind; although i have read similar comments from heaps of people in numerous threads, which is why i thought i would share.

Currently i still have the standard toyota bash plates, also the ones that come standard with the ARB bar. I have however started making a custom bash plate which will extend Back to the cross member under the transmission. Just have to find time to finish it, between working full time and making sliders and building a new kitchen and fitting the winch and.............well it might be a while before that one gets done.

Bonnet Scoop is a standard Toyota Hilux, scoop was $250 i think; and around $300 - 350 to fit from memory.

                    Cheers Andrew

I finally put some time aside to install my winch. Things started slowly the first night as i discovered that the supplied bolts were to short so i had to source some longer ones the following day! Other than that everything fitted well and even all the supplied cables were the ideal length for my install. I mounted the control box on the beullbar between the spotties as this seemed the best and easiest spot for me to mount it. It has the added advantage of making my decision about running a third spottie a lot easier

The winch fits in without removing the bullbar, but only just. I had to remove the rope and then weave the winch into position. I also found that i needed to rotate the clutch control as it would have fouled on the air-con pipe. Pulling the winch apart i found that all the seals seemed to be fitted correctly and everything looked fine. (others on PP have found mis fitted seals in these winches).

The negative battery terminal hooked up no worries, the positive terminal was ok except that the cover really doesn't fit well any more. I will have to check around for terminal that is a bit better suited to the extra wires, even though i only have 2 extras, winch and dual battery.

The remote control seems to work well, it also has the wired controler that plugs into the same spot.

                      l

Also picked up a bit more recovery kit to go with the winch, 9000kg snatch block, 9000kg winch extension and damper blanket. also picked up a GME handheld UHF as well. The UHF is only a 2 watt unit but i used it last weekend and it operated over a distance of 8 kms so pretty happy with that.

                      Cheers Andrew

Nice job! 2 questions, did you fit an isolation switch and is the fairlead wide enough to feed the rope onto the whole spool?

Yes on both counts, the winch comes with an in line isolater, just a twist and lock job. If that gives me any grief i have an isolating switch out of a caterpillar loader somewhere in the shed i will add if needed. As i said i had to take the rope off to fit the winch, I wound it back on winching the Prado up my driveway with the handbrake on a few clicks, filled up the whole spool nicely.

                          Isolater switch below.
