  • New Prado 150 Kakadu bought !!!

Just paid deposit on a new silver 150 Kakado .... it was a demo one in stock with 100km's on the clock, it now has 200 km's after my lenghty test drive. Only extras I am getting is rubber floor mats, boot liner and tow bar. Just a few questions if people can answer ... forgot to ask the sales man.

Fuel tanks ... is it one or two tanks and does it have only one fill point. Do you have to change between tanks or is this done automatically?

240 rear power point - I have a 60lt Waeco fridge, can this run ok off this or can I run the 12v power lead under the seats and plug it into the centre 12v socket ? Will this point have good enough wiring to handle a 60lt fridge or do I need to run some 6-8mm wiring to the rear ?

Does any-one out there know what all the buttons are for and will I ever master all them ??? Can't believe all the gadgets in this vehicle. I can't wait to trade it in in five years time to see whats on the market then ... the mind boggles !!!!

Re: New Prado 150 Kakadu bought !!!

congrats on the new vehicle.. if it's in stock i'm sure you'll have it soon.. mine took 4 days after order..

it has two fuel tanks, with 1 filler. it cycles the fuel automatically for you.

i run my 60ltr Waeco on the back inverter socket without issues. i don't run it when the truck is turned off.

you have a heap more buttons than i do - as i have the GXL.. from what i've heard from some other kakadu owners - they never use the buttons.

    enjoy

Re: New Prado 150 Kakadu bought !!!

Congratulations on the purchase Rumy. I can help with the fuel question and there are a few posts already in the modifications section on the inverter in the back and whether you can run the fridge off it.

Re the fuel tank, there is only one filling point and you don't have to change tanks. The fuel gauge is a little different in the 150 series. In the 120 series the fuel gauge had two phases. When both tanks were full it gave you an overview of your over all fuel (i.e. when you used half of the first tank the gauge showed 3/4 full). Then, when you used all of the first tank, the 90lt light came on and the fuel gauge gave you an overview of what was in the remaining tank - (i.e. - the gauge showed full again if you had 90lt in the tank - and would show half full when you were half way through the second tank).

In the 150 series, the gauge just shows you your over all position all of the time. So, if you have 75 lt left in total (i.e. half of the overall capacity) - the gauge shows half full - rather than going back up to full again once you use up the first tank. I personally prefer this to the way the 120 series did it.

Anyways, probably more info than you really wanted - have fun with the new Prado.

Re: New Prado 150 Kakadu bought !!!

Thanks for the replies .... I pick it up next Tuesday, this is when my wife returns home so it'll be nice to pick it up together. The 220v socket is an issue because I have read what posts I can find and people say yes and no about running a fridge. I have a 60lt Waeco just like yourself so I assume mine will run too.
I will be getting a second battery soon and run some thick wires down to the back so it's not really an issue for me.
Derek from Sidewinder has been very helpful here so if you need advice, GOOGLE "SIDEWINDER" for some great gear.
