  • modified '05 V6 GXL ... Butane ...

first, this is my rig when i first got her late '09

    its a 2005 GXL 4.0l VVT-i with a 6 speed manual gearbox ( 97k on the clock )

 Started the ball rolling by draining all the lubrication oils from the donk, gearbox, transfer case, and front and rear diffs.
new engine filter, all topped up with new
Castrol products sticking with the magnetec 40/15w in the motor
 Changed out the spark plugs with new densos , the 3 on the pass. side hadnt been done at the 100k service, so it was lucky i checked

 while i was saving for the big stuff, i whipped up a rear recovery tongue,

 added VVT-i badging and a black bonet protector

 The front and rear wheel arch's, where taped and sprayed, spare holder packed out

 the dollars a reality, the tyres were the first major mod, and honestly, worth every cent. I slipped some Mickey Thompson 5 rib ATZ's under it and evan replaced the brand new GT on the spare for the same... which has already been rotated and put into use

 with a 45mm lift kit from Ironman siiting in boxes, and a second hand ARB deluxe Bullbar waiting to be modified, it was time to make the prado respectable. I replaced the stock shocks/springs, then sent it in for a camber and wheel alignment

    before............................................ .............after

 after it was raised, i found the mudflaps didnt look right, so i made some extensions out of 3mm rubber, and still very please with the new look

 removed the front bumper for a dummy fit up of the bullbar, fly screen installed to protect the radiator, the under side of the lights etc. was blacked out ready for the bar

 noticed the " non flared bar yet? "

 about a week later, this is my modified bar painted SATIN BLACK

 time to give her a good scrub, step back and have a good look

I hadn't noticed it wasn't flared at first but did notice the additional steel you welded on. i had assumed the bar was damaged and didn't think it was for the non flared body. The end result looks quite good. Was the paint a spray (as it seems) or powdercoating/baking. Just curious about the finished strength and resistance to damage from rocks and other.

 Nick, ready for this, the bar is sprayed enamel over the primer, over a rubbed back two pack....
therefore, my topcoats are basically for appearance... the two pack is for the long haul of weathering/chips etc
unlike fellow bar owners now i can touch up with ease, lets say any good scratch should only penetrate the top coat, light feather, re coat...
i plan on touching up with paint instead of polishing a color coded bar, during the bar prep I experimented with re applying coat after coat...
the blending of layers with the satin paint was a dead set winner.... when i planned the paint i needed the bar to be the same color as the window sills, so it all worked out to my plan to tuff'en it up , so far, pretty stoaked drivin it around... as she's already turnin heads

Loving the look of your truck Butane!
Good going on the last bit of that hill (up)!
What's the setup on your camera? Love the angle and the slight bounce it gives without being all over the place.
                    Cheers - Phil Taylor

That's actually a pretty good idea.

It would also help with reversing into brick walls and just lightly scraping the pain off like I did ops:
