    Re: Darren's GXL TD 150

Tracklander alloy roof rack fitted this weekend. This was a really tough call for me. I am really happy with the rack but struggled to justify the cost, to myself, let alone the wife! I needed a full length rack as i needed to store an Oztent RV5. I could have gone for the ARB one or Powerful 4x4 but neither looked quite right (top heavy) and wouldn't fit the tent neatly or safely. In the end i coughed up and i'm happy with the low profile design (low feet).

Managed to get a great deal on a ARB 2.5m awning as the whole world and their dog seems to be selling them on special at the moment (BCF, OzTrail, Etc @ $259) and ARB matched the price within $10 whilst i was there.

Transferred my shovel holders from my old rack. I drilled and mounted everything directly. I'n not going to get sucked into the $150 shovel holder and $100 awning bracket game.

Firestone airbags also installed in the rear. Looking at the photo they have lifted the back end but i didn't have time to take before and after measurements during the install. I am very happy with the amount of adjustment they provide. Lets see how they go with all of the camping gear and 100ltrs of water over Easter.

Also in the photo is my 900mm antenna for my GME TX3340 which is pretty standard and trial fittment of the my DIY 3 piece sand flag ready for our easter trip to Lucky Bay and Kalbarri. LED lights to be fitted to the roofrack and awning this week to match the rear door unit. Head torches shouldn't be an issue on this trip!

      Re: Darren's GXL TD 150

CHIPIT installed today... Very pleased with the difference! It really does pin you back in the seat when you gun it! It needs to be wired to Aux power so it only engages after the engine has finished cranking.
Over the 50km I from home, my fuel efficiency increased by 0.5ltr/100km. Currently running it on tune 4.

        So it's been a while...

So far i have been using the Prado as intended, out camping and exploring in the mud. I've picked up a few kilo's of clay and mud over the winter but i'm slowly removing it bit by bit. I think today is the first time in a month i've finally got the wheels back in balance for all of the mud build up behind the alloy.

Installed a Tigerz11 12,000lbs winch last weekend that the wife bought me for my birthday (but i had to pay and carry it myself at the Perth 4x4 show)! Very happy! Easy installation and bolted straight up to the ARB bar.

Installed a front TJM sump guard. I already had the rear one and as the front was now looking way out of shape, i decided it was time to add something a bit more solid!

And finally got around to one of the more common mod's on this site...

Chip-it is still causing issue per the thread on the Diesel section but the power is truly amazing!

Hey Darren, what Engel Fridge have you got there mate, and how do you go for clearance on the Back Door frame?

I have a Drivers side only Draw with a Fridge Slide ontop in mind (so we can still utilies the Passanger side 3rd Row seat with it in), which would mean installing it ontop of the 3rd Row Seats just like your setup. I had an either a 57 Litre or 75 Litre Engel Combi Fridge Freezer in mind to go ontop, but I think I'm going to have a clearance issue pulling it out the Back door frame. It will be a balancing act between a 57 and a deeper draw, and 75 with a shallower draw setup... not sure which way to go!

Hard to get my head around without a vehicle to walk outside and look at :-(

No such luck i'm afraid! Mine is only a 40ltr. You might be able to fit a 60ltr in on a slide with the handles removed but you would be pushing it for anything else with my setup.

This issue is due to the angle of the 2nd row of seats and the hight of the boot floor with the seat folded down. This angle problem is exaggerated with cargo barrier. I'm pretty sure you would struggle.

Check out ABR Sidwinders build. I think he installed an 80ltr from memory.

Nice build up. Is you rig an auto or manual? The reason I ask is if the chip it chip would cause a bit of a clunk in an auto if you were to plant it?

                      It's been a while...

Finally just finished my DIY drawers... I've had the main drawers in for over a year now but only just made the side panels on hinges. I have installed the draws using quick latches with hooks so they lock onto the factory luggage hooks. I can have the draws out within 5mins if i need to and the cargo barrier out in another 10.
Straps, shackles and tow bar stored in the left hand side.. Compressor and jump leads in the right.

I have posted in another section but i would strongly advise that anyone with a Chip-it on a D4D motor removes it immediately!

How much bigger did the 200 series feel compared to the 150?
                            Did you get an GXL?

I am planning on a 3" exhaust but staying away from all chips. I hope you like the 200. A mate of mine went to the 200. Purchased it with 120k on the clock. He loved it but at about 140k the crank bearing went and now he is up for $18k to get it fixed. I am beginning to loose faith in all the brands.

                                G'day Darren,

Seemed like a sudden change of mind with keeping the Prado? Enjoy the 200 series, I had one before the Prado, loved it. I just made the mistake of buying a petrol one. Question for you re the drawers, did you need to modify the suspension at all? did it sag?
