Re: Project Boomslang - Cleaning the MAF Sensor

After some disappointing fuel consumption figures I decided to give the MAF sensor a clean. I used the Mass Air flow sensor cleaner Aerosol from CRC that I bought from Autobarn at $24.99.
I was very surprised at how dirty it was.
This is what it look like when I took it out.

    and after a few squirts

I did have a problem with the O-ring in that it was a little aged and loose in its groove. It wouldn't sit tight enough in the groove so that I could just slide the unit back into the hole. At the moment it is a little dodgy and I've ordered a new one from Toyota ($4.00). I'll replace it in the next few days and wait for the fuel economy to improve.

      Re: Project Boomslang

that's coming along really nicely. Let us know how the fuel economy goes after the maf clean. I noticed a dramatic decline in fuel economy after the lift, tyres and racks :x

I run the latest iGO8 as well as OxiExplorer. I have 2 seperate Micro SD cards and swap them over for on/off road use. I use an 8GB card without any problems

Did you notice any improvements with your fuel economy once the snesor was cleaned and the new o-ring installed?

It's a nice looking rig mate, quite... Your UHF mic bracket looks a lot easier to put on than mine does...
Look forward to seeing more of your mods as you get to them!

Re: Project Boomslang - Cabin Air Filter

After reading the thread on the cabin air filters and that the early GXL models had no filters installed, I took some action and followed Chippy's instructions here
              http://pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?...40f3772a1e4d8b
I removed the glovebox and cradle and it was empty as expected. It was not filthy but had some dirt on it (120k km including one epic outback trip through SA)

I found this filter at Repco for $35.00. ($31.50 after NRMA discount) I was told this is there own brand that they are bringing in from China PN FCF008

After I cleaned the cradle, I installed the filter and everything went back together without a hickup.

This is a 5-10 minute job and I'm keen to monitor the results. I'm actually hoping that it will reduce the airflow a little because I'm looking for a setting between the OFF and LO position.

                  Hi Troy
Yes, I need to update my build up thread. The TJM bash plate is good but I'm disappointed that it doesn't extent all the way to the Bull bar like the Brown Davis. In retospect I should have gone for the Brown Davis plate. I cleaned under the car today and was shocked how bashed up the Toyota front plate is.
                  Cheers Piet

Re: Project Boomslang - On the Front Page

Well not exactly a built update but a moment to enjoy. The Boomslang mobile made it on the front page of the Toyota Landcruiser Club News. It is only a small pic in the bottom corner, but we also feature a number of times in the middle pages.

                          Epic trip with 4WD Action

Well it looks like I'll have some finishing up to do on a few mods as we have been selected to join the 4WD Action crew on a 13 day epic NSW Outback trip. Keep an eye out for the article in the magazine and on the DVDS.

                          Can't wait!!

                            Congrats - great build.
Looking at your build up you have a microphone bracket you credit other users with. I have searched (to no avail) for a mod details post but cant find any details. What was the bracket made from - it looks familiar.

I got the concept from other members. I think it is called "hoop iron" available from Bunnings. Easy to work with and come predrilled with holes.
