Hi zerosecta,
Noticed you're from point cook! I've seen a couple white prados around that area, one of them was probably you!
Anyway, do you mind me asking what kind of tint you got, from where and for how much? A friend of mine got his done recently by tint professor (darkest they had apparently) and from the photo, yours seems far darker.

Re: zero's 2010 GXL V6 - Glacier White
Hi zerosecta,
I wasn't so sure of the tinting laws, so I did some research and found this: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonl ... SI2web.pdf "All windows of a motor vehicle, other than windscreens, available to the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must have a light transmittance of at least 35%." So I guess the darkest legal tint is 65%. Just some food for thought.
I wouldn't have thought that tint-a-car would apply an illegal tint. Though I reckon it looks awesome! Anyway, I was having the same concerns with it being too dark that it would impair my vision of the outside, especially the side mirrors at night or in car parks as you stated. I was actually planning on doing a darkest-legal tint all around, except for the two front side windows being a notch below darkest-legal. Given your comments, I think I'll just stick with darkest-legal all round! $350 is a fair price to pay and a lot closer to home than tint professor! I'm surprised they changed it over for you for free. Do you by any chance know if they removed the door panels off when they installed the tint? I've been told that some places use a liquid between the film/glass to slide the film into place.
Thanks for info, and also excellent work with the detailed photos of the dual battery setup; especially telling us where you sourced the DIY parts from!
EDIT:
By the way, did you buy that car from Peter Davey Toyota in Werribee? Noticed your first build up post coincided with the time of when that White GXL display model disappeared!

Re: zero's 2010 GXL V6 - Glacier White
Hi, the tinting actual works the other way round it is 35% that is darkest legal (35% of light comes through the tint) and this is what i have on the front windows - If i recall I think the rest of the car is 20% (only allows 20% of light through).Originally posted by WilliamHi zerosecta,

I'd recomend this setup as I can now see perfecly through the front windows and mirrows and having the darker tint on the rest provides good security against prying eyes.
BTW - they will do darker than legal as its not ilegal to apply it - only the drive with and it voids your insurance, each to his own.
Bought it from Airport Toyota in Airport west - Peter Davey was a little rude to me and did'nt really give me the time of day - perhaps because I walked in talking about buying a $60K car wearing boardshorts and a singlet... Dont judge a book by its cover Peter Davey :-)2010 GXL V6 - Point Cook, Victoria

Hi,
Ah, you're right on the mark there. I thought the percentage would be the percentage of light blocked by the tint - guess not!Originally posted by zerosectathe tinting actual works the other way round it is 35% that is darkest legal (35% of light comes through the tint) and this is what i have on the front windows - If i recall I think the rest of the car is 20% (only allows 20% of light through).
I think I'll keep it legal 8) the cops around here can get trigger happy.Originally posted by zerosectaI'd recomend this setup as I can now see perfecly through the front windows and mirrows and having the darker tint on the rest provides good security against prying eyes.

Re: zero's 2010 GXL V6 - Glacier White
As long as you put darkest legal on the two front door windows you can put what ever you like on the rest and thats still legal - Its only the two front doors that they mandate have to be no more than darkest legalOriginally posted by WilliamI think I'll keep it legal 8) the cops around here can get trigger happy.

Re: zero's 2010 GXL V6 - Glacier White
Hi,
Really? Quoting vicroads again: "All windows of a motor vehicle, other than windscreens, available to the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must have a light transmittance of at least 35%."Originally posted by zerosectaAs long as you put darkest legal on the two front door windows you can put what ever you like on the rest and thats still legal - Its only the two front doors that they mandate have to be no more than darkest legal
Making emphasis on "obtain a view of the road or other road users".... Wouldn't that include the back seat windows too as you'd use them to perform headchecks? ie: obtaining a view of the road/other road users... If what you're saying is true, I'll definitely go for darkest-legal on the two front side windows and one darker than darkest-legal on the rest (except the back window).

Re: Cosmetics - Some Stickers to set her aside in the car park
Hi,Originally posted by zerosectaI have cut a few stickers (matching left and right side) of the brands I have used, trusted and enjoyed over the years out of 3M DiNoc Cabon Fibre Vinyl and applied to the car just for abit of fun really but it does give her a nice sporty, factory Team knid of Look.
I can Provide Stickers if anyone wants them (at a price :-) ) PM if interested.
I dropped Steve an email from Tint-A-Car Hoppers Crossing, going to get it done there for $350 as you did. Thanks for all the photos and info!
The stickers you made look very professional and sleek, especially with the carbon fibre pattern. What a coincidence it must be that I was photoshopping some designs last night. Will be dropping you a PM later. By the way, are those machine cut or hand cut? You must have one hell of a steady hand if it was hand cut since the O in Oakley is so perfectly cut.
