  • Andoland's 150 GX D4D - ARB Compressor installed

I flew down to Brisbane yesterday and picked up the new machine.

It was sitting at the front entrance of the dealership ready to go ... except that it didn't have the aftermarket tyres and wheels on it that it was supposed to. Hmmm. After a bit of frantic searching through paperwork (the guy I had been dealing with was away on holidays) they found the details, contacted the tyre place and had the new wheels fitted and ready to go in about an hour. I had all day so it was no big deal and they ended up filling up both tanks with diesel for me for the inconvenience (one tankful was already part of the agreement).

    So here are the details.

It is a 2010 GX D4D in Glacier White and currently has the following accessories fitted by the dealer:
    TJM T13 steel winch bar
    Hayman Reece Towbar
    OME suspension
    Airtec snorkel
    Tinted windows
    Speedy Avalanche 17 x 7.5" wheels
    BFG AT 265 70 R17 tyres
    Sandgrabba floor mats
    Bonnet and headlight protectors

And black duck canvas seat covers for the rear seat which I fitted myself when I got home this afternoon.

I only have one picture and it is not very good so will try to get some more another time.

I am super happy with the vehicle - it looks awesome, much better than I expected, expecially with the larger tyres and the suspension lift. It is a nominal 50mm lift but I reckon it is substantially more than that. I expect it will settle when I get the winch, second battery and cargo drawers fitted.

Compared to my 90 series it is a massive step up - so much bigger inside, more standard features, heaps more grunt, etc. The 6 hour drive back to Gladstone today was a breeze.

    Mods still to come:
Blackwidow cargo drawers and 1/2 cargo barrier. The drawers from the 90 series fit using an adaptor kit from blackwidow.
    Dual battery (from 90 series)
    Winch (from 90 series)
Roofrack - it was originally ordered with an ARB deluxe alloy roofcage but I realised it probably wouldn't fit in the garage so I had to cancel that. I am now looking at a Rackmaster rack from Opposite Lock (these appear to be the windcheater rack from Dolium)
In-dash GPS (looking to see if one of the models from Dig Options will work in the GX)

I think I might have to get side steps fitted as well. It is so tall the kids have trouble climbing in.

Very nice setup mate. Notice you have replaced the factory rims with aftermarket ones and it looks better. What OEM tyre size does the GX model comes with?

      Wengnuts,

The factory tyres are 245/70 R17 on 6.5" rims. They are the same diameter as the 265/65 R17's on the GXL but they are an unusual size so there is not a lot of choice for replacement tyres and I was worried about availability out in the bush.

          Hi Andoland,
Nice rig you've got there. I like how the White GX comes with black side mirrors and door handles. I'm not sure why they don't do that with the other models.

          Cheers

Nice going Ando, pretty much a mirror image of mine except for a couple more accessories than mine but I'm working on it.
I plan to fit my 2inch lift this weekend so I was interested to see how it looks after the lift and from looking at yours, it seems pretty high.
Keen to see if anyone has come up with a set of steel steps for the GX as well so if you find someone, please let me know.
              cheers,

It is very high with the lift and larger tyres and definitely needs steps. My 5 and 6 year old kids can't get in without help apparently. I walked in the door from work this afternoon and the first thing the wife said was "You need to get some side steps on that car and you need to get them now!". So I guess I will be on the lookout for some. Only problem is being in central Qld there is not a lot of choice, but I will be ringing ARB and TJM in Rocky this week to see if they have anything available, although there is nothing shown on their websites.

I actually think it looks really good sitting as high as it does and the lack of side steps make it look higher. I still have to move the winch, second battery and cargo drawers across from my 90 series so that will settle it a bit I hope.

I just read Darren253's post on his GXL where he has measured his suspension height. I know mine sits very high so I went and measured it this morning.

                  810mm front
                  880mm rear

In know it will settle a bit once I get the drawers in the back but I still think it looks awesome sitting up so high.

I've not installed the Dig Options premium GPS unit. It fits perfectly and works well.

Here's a photo of it installed.

And here's the link to the installation.

The company is Oz Autoquip. They quoted me $770.00 plus $100.00 freight for the steel steps but they are only available in powder coated black chequerplate, otherwise I would have bought a set by now
I'm waiting for someone to produce them with mill finish aluminium plate as I think these would look better on my rig

                            Re: Andoland's 150 GX D4D - ARB Compressor installed

I have now installed my ARB compressor. As in my previous Prado I have installed it behind the second row seat. The compressor is mounted to the front wall of the black widow drawer system and the cabling runs under the kick panels to the dash. The ARB switch is bigger that the Toyota dash switch positions so a bit of work is required with a stanley knife to fit the switch.

It isn't wired up yet because I ran out of time.

The compressor mounted behind the second row seats:

I popped the trim piece out that holds the lever for tilting the second row seat, ubolted the seatbelt at the bottom and popped the front of the rear quater panel off which allowed me to get the cabling through and down to the rear seat kick panel.

You can see the hole I drilled to push the wiring through.

It is a bit tricky getting cables past the B pillar as there is a plastic cover over the wiring loom at the base of the B pillar, so I had to pop the trim off and run the cables over the top of this. It wasn't possible to push the cable through.

                            Switch installed.

I also ran wiring for my fridge while I was at it, using the same route as for the compressor wiring but on the left side of the car.
