  • Re the fridge, I have a CF50 Waeco, had it for around 3 years, its been pretty good, except the control/switch panel had to be replaced, and it wasnt very cheap. I also have a 120 Watt folding solar panel, it is fantastic, keeps our camper trailer battery charged, and we run the fridge, lights and bits and pieces on it. We have been away for several days at a time, its always maintains it at virtually full charge. In the car I have a dual battery, the second battery is 105 AH and is more than enough to run the Waeco, without the need for the solar panel.

    • Thank you for the input Adam, I value it greatly and will take it into consideration At this point in time, I have an 80ah under the bonnet as well as a 105ah in a battery box. I haven't decided how to power the 35W camp light and fridge yet. I think I might be able to get away with both batteries loaded up, but then, I'd probably be better in terms of weight and space if I can run them both off the 80ah and use a solar panel like you have to top up. I'm beginning to think an 80W solar panel kit will do the job nicely. I will run the figures again once I decide on which fridge to get. At this point it's an Engel MT45FP (40lt), but naturally the decision may sway in terms of value for money (savings).

Another issue I'm having is whether to get the Engel slide or Waeco slide. The engel slide is about $100 dearer and I haven't done the measurements to see whether it fits on the drawer system. I do however, know that the Waeco fridge slide (to suit the CF60) will fit on the drawer system... so the question is, would an Engel 40lt fit on the Waeco fridge slide? According to the figures online it should... So I was wondering if anyone has a similar setup with their Engel 40lt?

      Cheers

        • Thought I'd share a cooking technique with you all.... Haven't got a name for it, but it's similar to how the Aboriginals do it.

Dig a deep hole and dump in a layer of coal. Wrap some sweet potatoes (I prefer the purple variety) in aluminium foil then drop them in.

Dump in another layer of coal then cover the hole completely with dirt.

Wait 3-4 hours then dig it up and unwrap the goodies... still too hot to touch and cooked perfectly - everytime.

Finished off the trip with an awesome sunset.

          Hope you enjoyed the pics.

          Cheers

Well it is the beginning of winter, being a chilly 5 degrees I think we all went a bit pale haha.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Hope you all try out some of these cooking techniques next time you go out bush or maybe even drop me a PM if you have other unique bush cooking techniques.

                    Cheers and happy camping

                      • Met up with a fellow PPer over the weekend.... and got an ARB fridge slide for the 40lt Engel which is on the shopping list! Thank you Chris!

Mock fit of the slide... seems like its going to be very snug.

front roller part flares out a little, otherwise it'd be a perfect fit!

All I need now is the fridge! Any specials, please drop me a PM.

                        Cheers

                        • Hey william... Ray's tent city had 25% off everything last week (or the one before) which meant that the 40L fridge went from 999 to 750... not sure if it's still on but with EOFY rocking around you can still have a crack at asking them... if not check this out:

                            • Your welcome William, its better to to sell it to a fellow PP'er than have it sitting in the shed doing nothing.

The fridge slide has now turned into a nice little Husqvanna 14" chainsaw. Just perfect for camping!

                              • Hi Lorenzo, I'm actually after the platinum series, from memory rays only stock the eclipse at that price? I went to one of their VIP nights and they had the eclipse down from $1000 to $800.

Wooley, I was actually planning on getting a waeco from them if I can't source an engel at a decent price.

Thanks for the heads up fellas

Chris, i guess that makes two smiles I imagine it's small enough to fit under your bonnet? We've got some crazy gale force winds out there today, you might have to fire it up and clear up some fallen trees tomorrow morning.

                                Cheers
