Thank you for your comment and sorry for the late reply. As zerosecta has stated, you are correct, the GXL does not have automatic headlights. I was actually writing the build up while reading through the manual which states the Prado does - I suppose it only applies to the VX/Kakadu models? I found out the GXL didn't have them this weekend while driving ops:

Nice looking rig mate, closely following your vehicle's build up.

ps. I'll add a snorkel to your future mod list.

Thanks wengnuts. You can add it, but I wont pay for it I don't actually plan on fitting a snorkel as river crossings isn't something I plan on doing. I've read that there's some fuel savings to be had, but I don't think that's enough to convince me. I reckon there are a few people out there who fit snorkles just for the look of it, but never actually use it for its intended purpose. Hum, maybe that's another reason to buy one

First time the Pro Angler has sat on the Prado. Should've taken some snaps of the car & yak at the beach, but was too wasted having not slept the night before! It was quite an effort to get on compared to my brothers lifted Jeep cherokee. I can only imagine how much harder it will be after the OME lift... Took it to the bay today and caught some decent sized salmon, was hoping for snapper though!

Can't wait to get the bullbar and towbar in so I can secure the yak down well enough for the drive up to the Murray.

                      Re: William's 150 GXL D4D

In relation to the Air Locker and Prado with TC. I can speak from experience here having done the same in my old 120 VX. Was a waste of money! The Krapadu you mention has electronic diff with works with the cars electronics. When the locker is engaged it disables much of the TC preventing the ABS from braking a wheel(s) that you actually want to turn (hence the lock). Air lockers do not have this interaction with the electronic aides. Therefore, particularly on slippery ground you will find your engine retarding more often than needed as it cuts acceleration from what the TC thinks is wheel spin.

My advice, take the car on some tracks where you think it will be a challenge for the TC. You will be pleasantly surprised at just how capable it is. My bet is that you will have less courage than the Prado's abilities! Put the locker on hold until you've been out wheeling a few times. Get a good mounted compressor and drop your tyre pressure to about 15 to 18psi. There's not many places you won't go!

Having seen a car drown recently it taught me a lesion in regards to snorkels, At around 500 dollars it is cheap insurance for what would be a 20k motor. It will be one of first mods in the future on my new cars, I never plan on crossing water but if I come across some after heavy rain you can cross it with confidence.

This is true, factory traction control and aftermarket diff locks are not the best of friends

So, you can have all the above happen... Or, simply press the button that turns traction control off when using the diff lock :-)

Hi Phil, thank you for your advice. I am not discrediting your experience with your air lockers, but I want to put forth some honest questions of which I'd like some straight answers.
                            1. How exactly does the rear diff lock on the Kakadu work simultaneously with the cars electronics? It has been confirmed by those with the Kakadu that you can either choose the diff lock or the multi terrain select - not both.
                            2. If you are referring to the TC as the cooperative aid for the rear diff lock - again, how does this work exactly, and how does it differ from using an Airlocker as opposed to that of the factory diff lock. Are you suggesting that the TC will brake a wheel while the diff is locked? Wouldn't that be counterproductive? If that's the case, wouldn't turning off TC (and foregoing the front wheels TC) be an option?

From my understanding, TC operates by sensing wheel slip and applying brakes to that wheel so that power is transferred to the opposite wheel. To eliminate strain on the ABS and to apply equal power to both rear wheels (regardless of slip) a rear diff lock is required. A rear diff lock (whether activated electronically or by compressed air) will send an equal amount of power to the rear wheel, hence rendering the TC inert on those two wheels. A scenario for this may be clay-mud driving, where there is low to zero traction on all wheels. Where the traction control will constantly strain the ABS by braking wheels to gain traction (which I have seen fail in mud), a diff lock will turn both wheels equally regardless of wheel slip. Please correct me if I am wrong in regards to those statements.

Those people with more courage than their Prados abilities are either highly skilled and experienced or are those people you see bogged down or floating down a river. I’d rather not be the courageous one and not get into trouble in the first place. Like I said in other posts, this Prado’s purpose is to get me from point A to point B, where Point B is usually a secluded fishing hole. I don’t go 4x4ing, like some of you do, purely to test the limits of my prado and don’t ever plan to. It seems the general consensus on PradoPoint is that the prado must be taken to its absolute limits before being "allowed" to have a diff lock. I still believe the diff lock will help immensely in the driving that I do (mostly mud) and will test them out first hand.

                            Cheers

                              Hi Hutch,
I saw a video of the sunken prado 120 someone posted on PP. From memory it had a snorkel too? lol  My trips are actually well planned to an extent. In the numerous trips I've done, I have never come across a situation where I have needed to cross a river or water way due to rain/flooding. I wouldn't cross a waterway without a snorkel anyway, and if I ever do come across a situation when I need to, it will give me a reason to fit a snorkel and tackle it the next time I'm there Till then, no snorkel for this rig.

                                Hi William

Just got my Silver 150 GXL and looking at a better set of tyres.

How do you find the BFG AT's on main roads? Are they noisy and how do they handle wet bitumen?
More importantly how do they go off road as I am thinking of trading in my dunlops?

                                Thanks.
