Anyway on with the build thread... next up was a ScanGaugeII... haven't had much time to mess about with it but the stats it gathers and the ability to scan for faults is impressive. The SGII completely obsoletes the stock trip computer.

I decided to mount it to the windshield so I get easy access to the buttons.


Routed the cabling via the steering wheel column.

Where did you get your mount for the scan gauge? Better than my velcro solution.

Is the scan gauge able to give you an accurate indication of fuel usage? L's used maybe?

As my fuel gauge and trip computer no longer work... In the past week I've had one tank showing 3/4 after 800km and another tank showing empty after 600. And the trip computer has become useless also so need to find something I can rely on.

croozr: It was an ebay job. Adaptor end is stuck on using 3M tape.

wooley: Yes it does that and much more. To maintain accuracy you have to key in the amount of fuel and price per litre every time you fill up. The Toyota unit is now *really* obsolete now .. not that it wasn't already as the trip comp is also available in the hud. Very tempted to take the unit out and fit an ipad mount... It would be interesting to see if anyone has figured out how to interface the reverse cam to an ipad.

Yep I'd recommend it, just get yourself a good set of pegs. Other than that the build quality is excellent and it stands up to the weather very nicely. I can't fault it. Best 200 bucks I've spent on the Prado.

LFaR, good work on the new recovery points and don't be shy to ask questions if you have any. This is a build thread but at the same time I'd like to help people with their own builds... it's just my way of contributing to the community that helped me when I started.

Anyway I haven't used the recovery points yet. Though, I've been giving the winch a good workout.

I have had my 1000k service but as i live in Far North S.A this would be a great function to have on those hot summer days. How much was it to activate or was it included in your service? More details on how to go about it as it looks great.

It should come enabled from the factory, brigadoon.

Hold down the unlock button for about 5 seconds, car should beep twice and if you keep holding it down then the windows will open.

Do the same with the lock button to put them up.

Brigadoon, mine did not come factory enabled. I had it done at the 1000k service. A computer needs to be hooked up to the car and settings changed from there.

I use it everyday on those hot Melbourne days. Works a treat... All I need for it to do now is remote start and fire up the climate control like some of the Lexus vehicles!

Anyway just take it into Toyota service centre and show them the owners manual. There's a page somewhere towards the end that says the option is dealer programmable. There are also a bunch of other options you may want to change. If they refuse or deny that it can be changed (as my dealer did), just show them the video I took of it in operation or the many threads that discuss it.

My dealer had no idea about the remote windows. I told them it was in the book, they activated it with no dramas.

By the way, great build William!
