  • Stewart's 2007 GXL V6 Manual Build

    G'day Guys,

I finally after many months of searching and a month of waiting for delivery I have taken delivery of a Black 2007 V6 GXL Manual. I have big plans for the car mainly as a camping and towing machine as I spend about 25 weekends per year away. I plan to do some off road work, but mainly long range trips rather than serious 4wding

The planned mods are listed below, (I have packaged most of the stuff in with my lease so I have a big pile of stuff in the shed)

    Ironman Roof Tent
Iron Man Awnings side and rear
    Rino Heavy Duty Roof Rack
120W solar panel ontop of roof box
    Externally mounted LED lighting
    Dual battries (Red Arc Controller)
    40L Engels
    Blackwidow Cargo barrier
Drawer system with kitchen in the right hand draw
    Longer Ranger water Tank
    Polyair bags
    Pacemaker Extractors
    JTG Liquid LPG injection

So far in the two weeks I have had it, it has been converted to LPG and had the Pacemakers fitted. I have installed the roof racks and with the help of my dad and brother fabricated a frame to take the tent, lights and awnings. Below is a pic of the half made frame, I will add more as i go.

      G'day Guys,

Since the last update we have completed the roof rack and mounted the tent and awnings to it and installed a second battery. We took the Prado away on it's first trip last weekend to Lake Eildon. It retunred 28L per 100km on LPG, considering the pace we were traveling at and towing 2.3tonnes I am fairly happy with the resault (it is a very hilly trip). We are now working the cargo barrier and wiring.

      Updated Photos.

Dad welding the roof rack frame (it was a very late night we finished at 2:30am and went to work the next day)

Great setup and is that a hoist in your garage! You look familiar...

          Re: Stewart's 2007 GXL V6 Manual Build

I am very happy with the setup, there is still alot of work to do, though the next 10 days should see alot of it done.

It is indeed a hoist, however it is my Dad's garage (wish it was mine). He decided that at 55 with another 30+ years of building cars he was sick of lying on his back. I am very lucky I have a Dad with similar interests.

          Cheers

            Hi Stewart, Great Set up.

How much difference did the Pacemakers make to both performance and noise. I have a 2009 GXL V6 petrol also converted to LPG.

            Thanks

              G'day Daz,

I can't really say I am sorry, they were installed two days after I got the car. I am having trouble with a leaking gasket at the moment on the left side, I will get back to you once I have it fixed. As far as I can tell there is no difference in the noise level on the right.

              Cheers

                Re: Stewart's 2007 GXL V6 Manual Build

                G'day guys,

We did another big push on the Prado before our trip to Mallacoota.

This is the solar panel box, it sits on the front of the roof rack in front of the roof tent.

                Painting the Solar Panel Box

2 x 240V and 2 x 12V power points mounted in the side panel, my brother did a very neat job of the wiring

The wiring, inverter and RCD (just in case some clown does something dum)

                The cargo barrier installed

We covered 1000kms on the trip towing the boat and the car went very well. I am happy with the power and speed partucually towing.

                Cheers
