  • WanderingOz 90 Series Kimberley

    Hi all,
Not sure if anyone is interested but this gives me a place to track the progress of my build-up, so thanks to those who provide this forum.
I've had the Yr 2000 90 Series V6 Kimberley for a few years now without many mods. Only mods have been electrical with Anderson Plug & Trailer plug, extra 12v point in rear for the fridge and a smart cutout for the fridge point. So far it's been used mainly on the beach and dirt roads and to tow my van. It's been a great vehicle.
The decision to head to the Cape next year (2011) has prompted the build-up.
Here is my (almost) stock standard ride.

First thing I had done was the suspension.
I had the Bilstein shocks & King Springs done by Fulcrum Suspension. Really happy with the result. It rides better, tows better and gave me around 50mm lift all round.

Next was new tyres. I had previously had Coopers but wasn't happy with them so went back to what I liked and had served me well in the past (on a Pajero of all things).
Yokohama Geolanders A/T-S 265/70/16s. Not the most aggressive tyre out there but should do the job (I hope).

I've started to build a storage system for the back but will post some pictures of that a little later.
Next was a snorkel and bull-bar.
I managed to pick up an alloy Toyota Bar from a forum member who was upgrading to a winch bar. The vehicle we are traveling with has a winch so hopefully we can utilise that if needed, and the budget wasn't going to extend to new winch and bar. (oh well)
Safari Snorkel and bar fitted by Opposite Lock at Springwood.

Was very impressed with the build quality of the Safari Snorkel. A small deviation around the radio aerial and the attachment to the A pillar.

but!! when the aerial is fully extended it doesn't miss the intake by much, and a few bumps along the road had the aerial hitting the air intake. Nothing too serious and solved by dropping the height of the aerial slightly.

Next to come.. Rhino Racks and basket. Luckily being loaned a Foxwing Awning for the trip as well so will plan for that on the racks.
I will have to load up the the storage system as it stands at the moment and take some pics.
            Cheers

Rhino Racks now on board. Basket and awning won't go on until closer to departure date.

Shelf and drawers installed along with the drop down table and barrier.

How the fridge and kitchen drawers fit in.

Under the shelf. This stores the cooking gear (Hot Aussie BBQ, camp oven, saucepan, kettle, single burner stove and washing up box) as well as a fold up table on the right and recovery gear, compressor, ropes and tools on the left.

The fold up chairs and shower tent sit snug beside the fridge

From the passenger side rear door, drawers used to store clothes for easy access. These sit on top of the 2nd battery compartment.

From the drivers side rear door, storage in the box, probably for boots and hiking gear.

                    Coming along nicely.
Are the centre seats difficult to remove? Looking at removing mine soon

                      Hi Rob
No they are really quite easy to remove. The only tricky part is getting the plastic covers off without breaking them. Once they are off it is a simple matter of a few bolts for each.
Really worth taking out though because they weigh a ton.
                      Cheers
