  • Schniffs 2010 VX D4D

Hi all, well I thought it was about time I did a build up thread. I have owned the best since Feb 2010 and have done the Kimberley, Flinders Ranges, Vic high country and Robe beach run in that time. With the exception of the bullbar and snorkel I have fitted everything myself.

    The beast at the Bungles:

More Carling switches. One on the left is for driving lights, middle for air compressor and right for rear camera override. The decal for the spotties came off after I got armourall on it.

Second battery with Pirahna controller behind the airbox. I run two cables off it: 4 gauge via a 150 amp fuse to the interior and 8 gauge to a fuse box for underbonnet accessories. Winch is powered by main battery.

Awesome! Easily my new favorite buildup on this site. Thanks for sharing.

Especially interested in the audio setup. Did the kenwood install go smoothly? Noticed some spacers on either side of the head unit, where did you get them? Also, was it easy to integrate the factory camera?

        Cheers

          Re: Schniffs 2010 VX D4D

Kenwood install was straightforward. Those spacers are made by AERPRO, they are the standard ones for the space left by the generic Toyota radio.
The reversing camera requires a 7v power supply. I used a DC-DC converter from this mob: http://www.hummingbirdelectronics.com.au/supplies.html.
Then you have to splice the + and - video input cables and solder it to a standard RCA plug. Not too hard at all. The head unit has its own power supply for the camera, but I found that it would experience voltage drop and not power the camera properly, so I bypassed it and used a relay connected to the reversing circuit and the DC converter.

Thanks for that. Also forgot to ask... Do the steering wheel controls work with the kenwood?

Looking forward to your tune it chip review.

            Cheers

William, I have full steering wheel control by using a device called a SWI-JACK made by PAC-Audio.

Switched, the aerial is connected via the welded on tabs that are standard on ARB deluxe bars these days.

It wasnt too bad really. Drawers, wheels, tyres, tyredog, amps, speakers, compressor, UHF, awning, Dual battery all carried over from previous vehicle, accumulated over 3 years.

Mate I honestly can't fully remember. I had to use the USB connecter and a usb stick with the picture on it in a certain format.
Google will be your friend, search for "Custom logo on startup Kenwood head unit". It will be on one of the yank car audio forums.
The procedure is different for different head units.
