Thanks to Santa (aka Mrs Trekrider) I have finally got a new head unit for the Prado - it's a Pioneer AVH-P8450BT. I can't say I was impressed with the installation instructions - it said use M5 x 8mm screws to mount it but cutting a long story short they turned out to be an imperial size between M4 and M5. Unfortunately none of the holes lined up with mounting plates so I had to drill some new ones, after that it all went in very well. Works fabulously with my iPod Touch and the Bluetooth with separate mic works very well with my phone.
It was hard getting any photo's of it:
The Rear view camera image seems OK (photo doesn't do it justice):
I have wired my front camera to the Aux in which works fine apart from you can't listen to anything when it's turned on and the image is reversed as the camera is a standard reverse camera type - I will have to try and find a non-reversing camera to replace it with.
While I had all the panels out I took the opportunity to route the second UHF aerial lead up to the roof console as well as power feeds for the UHF and DVR.
Ive seen cameras that have a switch to select reversed or normal.

Managed to get some work done on the roof console:
I have fed cables to the roof for 12V from the second battery for the UHF, Ground and switched 12V for the DVR. The DVR did have a lighter plug so I took that apart and wired it directly to the switched 12V. All the cables are now nicely tucked away and I now don't have anything plugged into the 12V sockets on the dash.
I have also fed the coax for the bar mounted aerial to the roof console.
I have a black speaker grill to go over the round hole at the front for the UHF. Next steps are to mount the rear light unit and cut a hole in the side to use as storage, then cover it all with marine carpet. Oh, and I need to get a second UHF - minor detail
I borrowed the wife's sewing machine today to make up a new flag - It's an old safety vest that I cut up and reused the edging:
This one is actually attached at the half way point on my flagpole so that if the top section comes off I still have a flag. I can't claim originality for the idea as it's the same as my mate had on our recent trip to Wilbinga:
First day all the 4WDs got up Ten Pound Hill without too much trouble and the Forrester also didn't have any difficulty but we had to drag the Escape up. On the second day there had been a lot of traffic on the hill and it was badly cut up - most of us had to take two attempts to get up but the Pathfinder in the group couldn't make it even with the tyres at 10 psi and an experienced driver replacing the owner. Ended up dragging the pathfinder up. Fortunately we didn't take the soft-roaders down the second day.
