great stuff photoprado! that's a fantastic find!

some of the pics look similar to the ones the dealer had up when i was looking for part numbers of the stereo inserts. looks like another forum on the way too which could be interesting for diy ideas!

Be buggered if I would be entering my VIN number into this thing!!

I would suggest that it may be a useful site, but could also be harvesting VIN numbers for re-use...

          Food for thought..

            Well, maybe.

I don't have a VIN yet, I just followed the prompts to build the model number.

Most parts places I've been to recently want to know the VIN so they can find the correct parts. I guess you can derive the model from the VIN, so what would be the point of pinching one? (if you know how to get a model from VIN numbers, you can probably work out how to get VIN numbers from Model Numbers...)

            :?:

VIN's have commonly been stolen to rebadge stolen or written off cars.

Quite a lucrative market for it in fact..

Doing it by the model selection is certainly the safe way to go.

The website has no guidelines or privacy terms, thats why I would be careful with it.

Can't be too careful I guess.

If I remember correctly, the VIN is actually printed on the rego label in Qld and Vic, so crooks have an easy job over there to clone a car.

I think in SA at least, the system tracks VIN, Engine and Chassis numbers. If they don't match, bells start ringing...

Correct, but its even nicer for the bad guys when you post your VIN online for them.. And then they use it OS.

they make out that the Australian model has the euro door though, without the wheel bolted on the back... which was a shame, wanted to try and work out whether you could fit that door to an aus model.

There have been questions about when the injector changed on the D4D and according to this site:
                        Part # 23670-39185 08/06 - 09/07
                        Part # 23670-39186 10/07 - 11/07
                        Part # 23670-39316 12/07 -

                        Interesting....

With the ToyoDiy....how accurate are the VIN searches? I looked at an 08 GLX today, the VIN is on their website so I put it into ToyoDiy to see what month it was, and it came back as a GX. Old Mate Car salesman (Toyota BTW) assures me that it is GLX. Has all the GXL gear, including the Foglamps which the GX options don't include.

                          Cheers

The GXL is an Australian only trim code. To Toyota (Japan) the Australian GXL is a GX with options.
