Re: Cheap AA batteries
From my memory as a kid they had 8 Sub C cells in them... maybe things have changed though. Might be time to pull one apart and see.

Re: Cheap AA batteries
Well, as I was reading this I happened to have an old Varta one on the desk so I ripped it apart. At first it looked like 8 C size:

But after pulling it out this is what I got.

Not too excited about the quality with all the corrosion etc. It's not that old really!
Be great if the energizer's do use AA's as I use dozens of the things each week with my photography. And no, rechargeables are impractacle for what i want.Cheers - Phil Taylor

Re: Cheap AA batteries
I have been using the Uniross converters and their battery charger for some time to power torches etc that require either C or D batteries.
The converter enables AA batteries to be inserted into a case the size of C or D battery, and they work great.
I bought them from Uniross at a Brisbane home show a few years ago and can't find their aussie address but their products can be seen here

Also use their battery charger for the AA's .Pedro
