Trip to Cape York?

HI,
I'm planing a trip to Cape York in June & July with my friends. Can somebody give me help with a few ideas of what I Must have, or Must Do. I own a Toyota Prado 1998, v6 petrol, automatic. Fitted with front & rear ARB lockers, safari snorkel, bull bar with fog & spot lights, roof rack, hi lift jack, cb radio, all frequencies Ham radio. Recently purchased reqiured maps plus 4x4 off road maps on gps. Thats all, if there is anything else PLEASE Remind me.

hey joe sounds like you have it all covered, only thing i can think of is basic spares like a belts and stuff, fridge/esky ,tyres as well as how is your suspension eg std or after market, cheers samo

Hi Joe,
That means mud rated tyres - Cooper ST's or better tread. It can be quite slippery on some of the river crossings. Other than that you'll have a great time.

sounds like you have it all covered take some spares like belts and hoses , tires we used coopers all terrain ,had 2 spare tires , puncture repair kit ,
fridge , had no problems that was in 2009 july , had only standard suspension ,and as long as you take it easy its all good . might want to check the roads though as with the big wet up there this year doubt if the roads will get graded . we had a great trip.

Good place for a Holiday.

I went there in June and I am making plans to get back there this year as well. Check out my trip report here. I sent several pics to your PM.

Some of my favorite places are of course Chili Beach. There are camping spots a little in from the beach, but get there early or you will have to go further inland. If you are looking at a rustic accommodations try the Portland Roads Beach Shack. It has showers, propane refrigerator and gas grills..

If you are up in the Lockhart River area (BTW has a new grocery store and gas station) there is an old 61K track leads out to the old Lockhart River Mission (abandoned) that is a blast to drive. From there we took the Frenchman's track to the Telegraph Road, and up the Telegraph Track to Bramwell Junction & up the Old Telegraph Track. Of course we stopped by Fruit Bat Falls & Elliot Falls (twin falls). On the was South from The Tip, but on the way down on the West Coast is a small trail & beach at Vrilya Point. Good views for Sunsets and several free camping spots. When down the Bagama Rd. and to the East Coast and hit Captain Billy's landing. It's a nice track down to the beach and nice sand driving to each beach spot. A little to the West are some large fresh water pools like the ones on Fraisure Is. We headed South East through the Lakefield National Park and down through Laura, and Mossman Gorge and all are nice spots along the way.
