You will need to open the attachment at the bottom.

Re: Draft Regulation Impact Statement - recovery straps

Would you buy a strap that didn't have an advertised rating?

Putting a warning label on will have the same result as those attached to cigarette packets - stuff all.

It's more likely they will attach "Use at own risk" and "no responsibility accepted" labels to quell the potential for lawsuits from those idiots who misuse the product. But they are correct in that there isn't much in the way of instructions on use provided with most straps.

Some interesting info on the last couple of pages, unfortunately people just buy snatch straps, hook em up n go hard. That was my thoughts on them until educated by my brother in law. Fortunately B4 ever using one. Would be good to get some sort of quality info with them like the DVD i got with my Maxtrax's.
Yep.....I have a Prado just like you

I think this whole approach is dumb. Ok, there is an issue with ensuringing that snatch straps are appropriately rated, and full qudos, lets do that.

Having said that, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the bigger issue with tow balls and "tie down"points failing? What about amendments to the ADR to ensure that rated recovery points are fitted, as standard, to 4x4 vehicles. I think it is fair to ay that any 4x4 used for the purposes that the manufactures claim their vehicle are built for will get "stuck"at some time and will require recovery. If the intended usage is likely to requiry recovery then surely rated recovery points should be an inherent part of the vehicles design.

And probably 2WD as well. They also need pulling out of trouble from time to time.
