  • Morgan Quarry fencing

    G'day all
Just thought id let you all know that i went up to Brenda Park yesterday to check the shack and have noticed that they are putting fence posts right around the whole quarry area.

It looks like they are going to fence the area of very shortly as all the perma pine posts look set and ready for wire to be attached.

    Anyone know whats going on?

    Re: Morgan Quarry fencing

When Rob and I were up there a few months back one if the fellas in the local servo said that the council was going to be closing the area off due to there being a number of rollovers/injuries or something like that...

I made mention of what he'd said in our trip report, however, apparently they have been saying that for years...

    Maybe it's finally happening?

I found this on another forum today:

      "Dear Mr ******
I have spoken with the Mid Murray Council today about this issue and was told the following information in regards to Morgan quarry:
      · The quarry is being fenced by the council due to complaints made by local residents, who are fed up with motorbikes using the area at all times of night.
      · The final decision hasn’t been resolved by council, but the plan is for the quarry to remain open to all members of 4WD clubs – the clubs will have to have public liability insurance.
      · The quarry will continue to be available for SES, Police and Army 4WD training
      · There will be no cost involved to use the quarry, and keys to the fence will probably be held at the caravan park next door, and returned on the way out of the quarry by users.
So, it appears you will still be able to use the quarry without limits as long as you are a member of the 4WD club.
I hope this information is of some assistance.
      Kind Regards,

      Abbie Spencer

      Office Hon Ian Hunter MLC"

It was posted up late last year. Does anyone know if access can be obtained??

Yes it is still available for club events, 4WDSA used it recently for training. It would have to be club event though and not just a club member and a few mates.

          Cheers Andrew

WTF? My name is not Ian Hunter. Although Matty and I did use the place before it was fenced off. I was a good day and one item crossed off the bucket list, shame others will now not get the chance....

I recieved a press release from 4WDSA this afternoon.

The Morgan Quarry has now been closed to all users effective immediately, and for indefinite period after the discovery of indigenous remains!

                      Cheers Andrew

Glad I never told anyone about those 8 full skeletons I found in my front yard... Much easier just grinding them up and spreading around the garden.
