....had to break up the message/post because of that "too many images" thing... it can't count by the way... it said i had 7... i only had 5... took it back to 4, said i had 6... bah

A few really crappy photo's... from my iphone... as i was too lazy to go upstairs to get my normal camera... over the next few days i'll try to take some "beam" shots... to give an idea of what they are like...

(straight after fitting, needed to give her a quick splash to make sure all the swarf from the drilling was gone)

    (a piss-poor head-on shot)

I'm thinking i'm going to HID my XGT's still, possibly put them back on the bar (at a later date) and see about maybe either a longer single row bar for a roofrack, or just mount this one up there...

But, there you go, some pic's.... of a LED light bar... fitted to a prado...

oh, took me a while to fit-up because i also removed my H4 HID's that i had in there at the same time... went back to std halogen globes in my headlights... and had some real drama's working out what i'd done to get the relay trigger working with my HID kit... in the end i pulled all the wiring and started fresh, was an extra hour i didn't intend to take - poor me!

I had 3 and it still said i had 5 images! dumb thing!

the only other image i wanted to include was this super piss-poor illuminated shot...

      (piss poor illuminated shot)
-interestingly, you can kinda see how the last 8 LED's on both sides have a diffuser on them for a "flood" pattern

...Trying to come up with the best way to describe the light off it... you can kinda think of them as a replacement for the std high/low beam... it doesn't really do any more distance (maybe a tiny bit) than the high beam of the car (i have +120's halogen in there now i think - they were loose in my 'spares' draw not packaged, so i can't be sure) but it well and truely takes over the light output from all of the std lights on the car... i reckon if i *could* turn off the bullbar and headlights with the bar illuminated, you wouldn't notice much difference at all...

I'm just gonna leave this here.

        http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/Sa...ving_lamps.pdf

It's only relevant for Queenslanders. Not sure if other states have similar rules.

in the debate on LED vs HID, most are thinking of LED light bars, but has anyone had a chance to see the Hella Luminator's? and if so, your thoughts?

Link below for those that haven't seen them.

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

I love the light from the lightbar and rarely use the xgts now. I run my own brand 22 inch lightbar with 5 w led's and with an output of 9600 lumens that is plenty of light. I also had a set of HID spotties on the car but couldn't see the point of seeing 1km down the road when the things your going to hit are only in the range of the lightbar.

What a a long winded way to say " go ahead we're still looking into it" it seems they have considered that the lift bar consists of multiple lights that constitute pairs.
I'm still thinking that LED's key advantage is a spread directly in front of the vehicle when driving on closed in tracks not so much for long distance.
What I would like is to be able to replace the fog lights in my ARB Deluxe bar with LEDs.
See ya on the tracks, Richo.

couldn't agree more... i put my 32" one on my bullbar before a drive from darwin to perth, while i did very little driving at night... the small amount i DID do... was south from newman, where apparently fences haven't been invented yet... talking to the few truckdrivers on UHF (the trucks i hid behind at times) they mentioned animal (not just roo's, cattle!) strikes are a pretty regular occurrence... can't imagine the amount of insurance claims they would get.... but anyway, more than just a few times i genuinely feel the light output from the lightbar showed me things i simply wouldn't have seen with my previous spotties.

That's exactly what it's like... you could actually say alot of light output is "wasted" with it 'escaping' upwards.... which you see most on roads with tree's, because of how much up into the tree's the lightbar's output will light up... but... the pattern is exactly that, flooding light... and definatly best on twisting roads... more than long straight stretches... which personally, i only see, when i'm touring...

since fitting the 32" bar i have pictured on the second page, i've fitted a 42" single row onto the roof... which hasn't really added anything with regards to distance in the light output, it HAS made the lit area infront of my car considerably brighter... without creating any real glare issues with my bonnet (or body coloured, gloss bullbar for that matter)...

but unless you were totally inlove with led lightbar output (me), i'd still say the best option for most (especially people doing alot of touring) would still be to use both the lightbar and conventional, directional lighting.

Since i rarely use my fog lights mounted in my bullbar... i want to switch mine over to LED now (i toyed with the idea of a retro-fit HID) but that's a combination of reliability (the arb ones blow all the bloody time!) and aesthetics (to get the colour temp of the led light bars would be cool)
...i'm not sure you're going to get the light output that a "lightbar" will produce, from 2 small LED powered lights the size that fits into the bullbar.... i can't see you getting that many 5W cree LED's into such a small package, would love to be proven wrong tho.

Mate not sure if you are aware but Narva have just released there light bars.
The Lumen Output is higher than that of the Great Whites so they should be brighter, 18 - 35 percent.
They are available with the following number of led's
                    8 (72732)
                    12 (72735)
                    20 (72758)
                    36 (72766)
The part numbers are in the brackets above.
