  • Best pubs you've found when touring!

Did a Queens's Birthday drive on Monday with Bidla and found a great country pub at Clifton. Got me thinking it would be good to hear from other PP travellers who have found great pubs when travelling.

    My top three are:
    1. Birdsville Pub
    2. Noccundra
    3. O'Shanleys Irish Pub at Clifton (south of Toowoomba)

Let's hear about the top three pubs you have found on your travels.

    cheers

Like any port being good in a storm... just about any pub that serves a cold beer at the end of a long and dusty track will do alright with me!

The Gutter Bar on Moreton Island, but somebody said its closed down? A great spot to visit and a have a cold one, a short walk and some excellent fishing to be had.
The Pub in The Scrub, somewhere out the back of Lightning Ridge, dont ask me how we got there or back??
And number three, The Pub at Orchid Beach, Fraser Island.

          My top 3.

Hard to pick, fun to think about. We have been to many great pubs and few that we have no desire to go back too but would, if it meant traveling around this great country again

          1. Birdsville Pub
          2. Innamincka Pub
          3. St Albans Pub

Too many visited make it a hard choice. However, five good ones are:

            * William Creek Hotel - SA
            * Louth Hotel - NSW - Darling River
            * Nerriga Hotel - NSW Southern Highlands
            * Tintildra Hotel - Murray River
            * Dargo Hotel - Victoria

Ones that used to be good:

            * Bruny Island Hotel - Tasmania - new owner ripped out all the character
            * Family Hotel - Tibooburra - rude owner
            * Maidens Hotel - Menindee, Darliing River NSW - rebuilt inside after fire with non-heritage materials
            * Jugiong Hotel - off Hume Highway, NSW - beautiful stone pub but never open
            * Maree Hotel - SA - new owner not friendly at all

Lions Den Hotel near the end of the Bloomfield Track (Cape Tribulation - Cooktown).
Great atmosphere, huge meals, and nice camping down the back along the river.

I agree on Innaminka being a great pub. Amazing range of beers on tap form somewhere so remote and the food is awesome.

I also agree about Marree being crap. Was there last year about 11:30. There was five cars and we dropped in for a beer on the way to seeing the Cooper in flood. We probably would have stayed for lunch as well but the fella didn't want to serve us. Hope to find out about Dargo soon.

If your talking country pubs then:
                      Noccundra Pub (Qld)
                      Innaminka Pub (SA)
                      Nindigully Pub (Qld)
                      Parachilna Pub (SA)
                      Marree Pub (SA)
Haven't been to the Birdsville Pub yet but it is high on my list: while the races are on too would be good.

If your talking city pubs then the closest one to home..

Well I am a non drinker so am really only looking at the meals side of things.

                          1. Prairie Hotel Parachilna (SA) best meals anywhere in OZ bar none!!! Love the Feral Mixed Grill.

                          2. Dargo Hotel (VIC) Take a mate to help you eat the meal, huge servings.

                          3. Birdsville Hotel.

Lions Den Hotel and William creek Hotel both have a great atmosphere, haven't had a meal at either so can't comment on that.

                          Cheers Andrew
