Experience, it's stripped all the wax and dulled the paint surface of the Mav, the tyres have gone a black/grey colour. I still use it on the Mav, wouldn't let it go anywhere near the Prado...Originally posted by CrammyAre you speaking from personal experience? Thanks Peter, the D4D rans an fuel cooler, that is whats in the pic, they are on both manuals & autos.
peter
You'd think there would be a better spot for it, looks vulnerable to stones kicked up from the front wheels. I see Crammys has a bent fin towards the front.

**Edit, fuel cooler, well there ya go**
Thats nasty, I'll just have to bring out for the tuff stuff rather than wash the car with it. Going by their advertising it comes across as a safe product to use, I have read a few other forums where guys have used it for u to 5 years with no ill effects but going by whats hapened to your truck, I guess it best to play it safe.Originally posted by blkmav90Experience, it's stripped all the wax and dulled the paint surface of the Mav, the tyres have gone a black/grey colour. Hi Guys,
I explained the fuel cooler in a previous post, a very important piece of kit in the tropics, don't let it get chocked with mud, and its not a bad spot for its purpose to cool the fuel for the common rail system.
Why is not up front? cause its an important system and under there its protected from most impact damage.

Good idea, I'll use it on the engine bay and underneath etc. but I won't be using it on the Prado paint workOriginally posted by CrammyThats nasty, I'll just have to bring out for the tuff stuff rather than wash the car with it. The Hiluxs have that fuel cooler thingo in a similar spot.
Had a hired Hilux last year whilst doing a field trip. Ended up with a stick going through the fuel cooler - Bastard of a thing to happen - luckily it happened driving into the car park of a pub we went to for lunch (which wasn't such a bastard) and not out in the sticks where we were working - which would have been a real bastard.
I was really surprised and disappointed in Toyota that such an important bit of gear wasn't better protected. I thought if you can stuff up a 4 W D in a pub car park what hope would you have out in the sticks?

Fire Extinguishers in Vehicles
I reckon the Fire Extinguisher is a Must have. Put one in my commodore ute after pulling up one day and having smoke pour out from underneath and at the time all i could do was turn off, get out, and pray it didn't burst into flames - which it didn't. Now I have it sitting in the Prado until i get time to mount it.Originally posted by ChippyLuv this thread.
Thanks for the tip on where to put the fire extinguisher.

Cheers
Chippy
Anyway the point is - We had some fire extinguisher training at work the other day and they told us if you have an extinguisher in your car you should pull it out once a month and give it a shake and a tap on the bottom with a rubber mallet, as the vibration of your car causes the powder to settle and form a solid lump inside the extinguisher making it useless if you need to use it - also a good opportunity to check the expiry date on it.

I recently bought a 2004 prado (2 weeks ago) and it has two rubber floor mats, one for the driver and one for the passenger. Whenever I put my foot on the mat it would slid around as there was no friction between the rubber and carpet. To give it some traction I put lines of silicon (I just used a clear silicone typically used for plumbing) on the back, going from side to side. Allow it to completely dry before replacing the mats and hey presto, no more slip.
You could use it for any floor mats that slip around.NOW FOR SALE!!! - 2004 Silver GXL 3lt 4spd Auto - ARB Bullbar, Safari Snorkel, Redarc Dual Battery System, Cooper ST MAXX, Dark Tint, IPF900XS spots, Raised Bilstein/Kings Suspension/Firestone Airbags, Autosafe Cargo Barrier, Sandgrabbers, Rola Roof Rack Stuff, Insect Screen, Dust/Wind Deflectors, Sheepskin/Black Duck Seatcovers, GME TX3510, ARB underbonnet compressor, Allied Hammer Rims, ARB UVP, AJ Sliders

With drilling the tek screws directly to the body for the extinguisher mount, a mate told me to dob a decent amount of silicone onto the screw's pointy end before drilling.
When the screw goes in it coats the bare metal and when dry adds a protective seal to the metal and helps hold the tek screw.July 2008 D4D Auto GXL in White - rubbered, lifted, snorkeled, lit, bagged, barriered, barred, radio'd, and racked

Interesting idea phoenix,
Having built a catamaran some years ago and having used heaps of silicone in a variety of areas for sealing purposes, I would suggest that a smear in any application is redundant and will lead to false security. A good dollop will be okay if it can remain insitu with some volume. Counter sinking the hole around which you are placing a bolt is one method if it is done on the entry and the exit or a groove over which the washer can be placed. A smear on a thread simply breaks down.Dirttracker, (Martin)

Vodafone rang and offered me a new iphone a few weeks back..... and being the gadget freak I am, I had to say yes.
Problem was when I received it, there is nowhere it sits comfortably in the Prado, so onto the Web. Found a company in the US www.proclipusa.com who make vehicle specific car mounts for just about anything (including the new iphone) The make for LHD or RHD and specifically have brackets for the Australian Prado.
It is a 2 part system... You buy the braket that fits your vehicle, and then the holder to fit your divice..
I hate drilling holes in the Prado, so I think (although expensive) this works really well for me. It puts the phone in view and in a useable position.
For what its worth..........

.....and although it looks like it is covering the air vent, I still get plenty of ventilation.Rob

I have a bracket similar to this for my CB mic. The only hassle I found was every time you opened the DVD screen to put a disk in, it would press the mic button on
