  • New member saying hi!

    Hi all,

Just thought I'd drop a quick hello thread in here!

I've been on one PP.com trip a while back, met some of the awesome members on here and it was a shame it was such a short day for me... something about towing a broken Prado out if I remember...

Look forward to heading out with you lads again soon, assuming I'm welcome - not being a Prado owner as such.

The full signature was meant to read... before I ran out of space...

Nice! I don't think you had the steps when you came out in Feb did you? Do they double as sliders too?

PS PradoPoint welcomes all 4WDs on its trips, especially Patrols as they provide some of the best entertainment .... Discos are always fun to watch too.

      Hey Lyfe,
What's this about a cruiser part being in your ride?
I'm guessing the galvanised steps are the rear ones? I didn't see any sliders a weeks ago..

        Hiya

Yeah, the steps I inhereited with the car - one of the only "features" it had, being a DX and errr... basic being a gererous term. They sit on the rear and act effectlvely as a rear bull bar. They will take the weight of the car (and bend a bit ), but obviously dont protect the seals. Its pretty much time to get a new one since I've outgrown the old girl. The new car will have front and rear traditional bullbars, front and rear brush guards and some heafty sill protection tubing Also more underbody armour.

        See them here...

Yeah, Bilstein arent really heavily into their 4x4 shocks, so they dont do them this big and not many for Patrols, so I had to get them made. The biggest they did that would fit was a Landcruiser 100 set but it was about 3" too short, so they used them as a base and had some made. The fronts was the opposite problem... they had a set designed for a Baja, but they where too long, so they got made shorter. Took about 2 weeks from Germany. Where the bilsteins worth the money... difficult to say. I drove it for a 12 mpnths on a set of 2" Tough Dogs and they did well. Then 6 months on a set of worn out GQ loaner tough dogs, which where insanely shit and for 4 weeks on a new set of Toughs that where put on by a dodgy mechanic that was hoping I wouldnt notice they wherent Bils (having charged me for the customs ). Maybe wouldnt get them again, but they havent come close to failing and given the other mods, its hard to know if the road handling has improved because of them or not...

Nice rig there Lyfe. What sort of economy do you get on the open road in that? Would imagine it's pretty thirsty, but then Patrols are known to be thirsty. It is a very nice look rig. Wouldn't mind seeing a few more photos.

Ummm... I admit to struggling to get away from working in MPG, but roughly speaking $150 will get me 900km, give or take. The 3.0 is meant to be the cheapest in its class, but am thinking its time to move to the 4.8, which is meant to be the most expensive...

Problem with a big car... you find big places to get stuck. The middle one is not a freaky camera angle. That was the car... stuck as usual... at the bottom of a very large hole and the excavator is coming to pull me out...

How come you went for MTZ instead of Baja Clawz?

Maybe you could go for Black Mamba next time

Welcome Lyfe....yep the 4.8 is thirsty but has proven to be very reliable.....if you can afford the petrol costs then seems to me the way to go.....

client of mine from several years ago did this trip in his 4.8 Patrol over to northwest WA & back without a problem...his friends with diesels had problems with dirty fuel, apparently algae in the fuel!
                    Cheers,
