    Not sure the unions will get public support. They certainly don't have mine. Delayed 1.5 hours and I had to make up that time. They can stick their rises where they fit.

        Agreed I've been watching with intent since Joyce's press release.

        Will be interesting to see how it pans out. At least someone's finally stuck up to the unions.

        Btw I can't get tapatalk working for pradopoint on my iPhone or iPad? Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

          Joyce has made some gutsy decisions and despite the off shore focus is protecting Aussie investors. The harsh reality is if you cannot compete then get out of the kitchen. Threats to destroy the company by unions may have worked in the 1900's butt he reality is just as we source cheaper and better from overseas so should usiness in this global market As such archiac unions will ultimately destroy themselves and their members.

          Its simple, destroy Qantas as the unions have threatened and the phoenix will simply rise in Asia. Qantas or its successor will win and rightly so. In its most basic form, it like buying our Maxtrax or HID's overseas because they are cheaper and better quality than we get in Australia at twice the price.

          Finally, am I anti union, yes and no. if anyone reading this thinks I am then you have missed the point. That said, the main haters of unions I know are ex members who in their words have a sense of country and self over feeding fat pigs to do nothing.

              What was that?

              We are greedy?, we are our own worst enemies?, if it lasts for 6 months I will be the Bankrupcty Trustee for a number of engineers and Pilots who could have not interrupted my travel plans, not striked while their union leaders grew fat on their contributions while they lost their houses and set back tens of years because they wanted exhorbitant pay rises and to protect their current overpaid status compared to most other pilots world wide?

              Yep, if any of these he is right.

              My belief is if I don't like what get paid, then I leave. Social Darwinism says I will get another job for the value I am worth, not what I think I am worth. The two rarely are the same and holding my employer to ransom will not win me points with ANY employer.

                I pay my $1700 union fees every year, do I get value for money I'm not sure but I know I get paid well for what I do.
                That is because lots of people B4 me did it hard. Unfortunately human nature says we always want more.
                MLC gets bash plates I want bash plates. MLC has diff lockers I want diff lockers. The problem comes when we get lazy we don't really want to justify what we get paid and still want more for doing less. As workers we are not the ones putting lots of money at risk, we just go to work n back home for no risk. If i was investing lots of money to run a company i'd want a return as well like Joyce for the owners(and his big ceo pay cheque). Some times we just have to sit back smell the roses and realise how good we have it.........Oh n by the way please Mr Qantas I wanna go home on Tuesday after 7 weeks at work.

                  Has just fkd 3 flights I have to do in the next week... Looks like a 4300 km return drive coming up..

                  My long standing thoughts on unions stand, I would like to smash them in the face with a brick.. Assholes..

                        If the boss get an extra 70% how can you say that the workers are asking for exhorbitant pay rises? especially when you consider he was already on 3 mil.

                        Gee my heart bleeds for all you guys that are wealthy enough to be able to afford to fly, I flew in a commercial plane once, couldn't afford to go for another flight though.

                            I don't support either party here. I agree with MLC. If you're not satisfied with work conditions and your employer doesn't want to negotiate then there are two choices... find another job or shut your trap and keep working. If you think you can hold your employer to ransom by not working then you want to be sure that you can't be easily replaced.

                            I also despise the big bosses in big business. For too long they've been paid far too much under the misguided assumption that you get what you pay for. This attitude has encouraged a culture of risk taking where the big CEOs gamble with company assets. If it pays off then the company makes a big profit, shareholders are happy and CEO gets a big bonus. If it fails then the CEO gets a golden handshake and moves on to another job while the shareholders take a loss on share price drop and the employees face job losses. I see a CEO as no different to any other employee. Sure they may have more complicated employment conditions than a 9-5 job, and it probably requires a bit of experience which would justify a higher pay scale. But at the end of the day if you don't like the job then leave. I see no justification for them being paid 10x, 100x + more than the average employee.

                            Don't get me started on politicians and government department heads comparing themselves to CEOs in order to justify their pay packets.

                              On a side not, i recall something about Richard Branson setting up Virgin Airlines in a similar situation. I'm foggy on the details, but i think BA was striking and he was stuck somewhere. He decided to charter an aircraft with a bunch of other stranded passengers and got the idea that it wasn't hard to organise one plane, maybe he could make some money out of chartering a bunch of planes and capitalise on the situation. Seems to have worked out for him. Didn't work out so well for BA.
