Whilst in the US, came upon what surely must be the piece-de-resistance of American Cuisine - the Chocolate Covered Potato Chip:



Just had to try one but it truly was a disgusting mouthfull.

I was intrigued by the thread title because in the month or so I spent in the good old US of A working at our American sister company I struggled to find comestibles let alone anything I would classify as cuisine! Highlight was late one night in a diner (yes starting from a very low point but we were starving and it was very late after meetings) my colleagues and I ordered various house specialties including roast pork and apple sauce (this was two broiled pork chops and half an apple on top, the apple had seen better years), turkey meat loaf (beef meatloaf that had been introduced to a turkey on a very casual and brief basis. This was also broiled and lacked the flavour one would generally find in a discarded cardboard box) and something that didn't resemble in any remote way the alledged description on the menu. This was also broiled. The broiling process seems to be a unique combination of not enough heat to caramelise the flesh and a surfeit of water beneath the article being destroyed which allows said water to enter the dish and hide there until released by the first stroke of the knife. The coffee though was special. I was under the misunderstanding that Baristas created coffee but in the States it is the sole provence of brickies labourers!

On the car lashes I was followed by something small white and Korean yesterday and someone had fitted it with about 342 cable ties around the headlights to achieve that result. Yes before you ask the driver was a young female with red P plates...

We must have eaten at the same diner, as we agree totally on the food front - it was very, very difficult to find anything that actually TASTED like it was supposed to, the exception being one small place in rural Wyoming run by a couple of hairy armpitted lesbians (no offence girls!).

They actually had the real deal in terms of Indian Foods - Biryani's, Tikkas etc as part of the menu. We felt like ordering 32 take-outs and having them frozen for the rest of the trip.

We couldn't understand how they can remove the taste from things like cheese, butter, chicken and don't get us started on the coffee! One place actually had a real Lavassa machine but they were clueless as to how to operate it. I offered to jump behind the counter and show them how to froth milk but they looked at me as if I was form another planet.

Come to think of it I got that look most of the time so maybe nothing speciual in that regard!
