  • Lockers, the cheap way

Saw this on another forum, LMFAO

Guy wanted a locker and didn't want to part with his hard earned, so locked it himself

I think his main problem is should have arc welded it instead of using the Mig

    Cheers Andrew

This is referred to as a "D"Locker. Cheaper than an "E" locker.

    The "D" stands for Dickhead.

I suppose technically it is locked, but then i can achieve the same result without even starting my car.

      Not even good welds.

Yeah, if he';d been to the 2011 GTG, Andrew would have shown him how to weld properly with part of a beer carton and a couple of batteries....

        Cheers,

Welding up the diff to make a locker is pretty common, especially in lower grades of speedway and other off road races that are on a tight budget, helps if you weld the right part though

Try going around a corner on the bitumen with a welded diff. D does stand for dickhead.

I've seen plenty of diffs locked by welding spider gears, but welding the crown to the pinion is a new one. I guess there's a couple of benefits, his car will be harder to steal, diff noise will be non-existent, and he doesn't have to worry about the oil levels in his diff.

That's what I thought.... he hasn't even welded the right part....

I think it comes down to vehicle type and what u are going to use it for... I know plenty of Zook owners who do this and still drive it on the blacktop....Their vehicles are mainly used as weekend bashers.....with the Zooks being light they tend to get away with it, but other than that, it's something you would not like to do to a touring type vehicle.....

Once you get past is being the completely wrong part to weld. How was he planning to re-install it ?

The last one I saw was welded inside the casing, so getting it in wasn't a problem. SOme people don't think before they weld

I have seen "quality" welding like this before, now where was that Matty?
