  • If you don't laugh I would surely cry moments.. Ever had one?

    Hi fellow PPers,
Ever had one of those moments when although you think you have done enough planning for the task ahead, whatever it is,the simplest ( dumbest in my case ) thing that can ruin a good day of 4wding? Well here is one that will hopefully give some of you a laugh. I.ll keep it as short as I can.
A bit of recent history to paint a picture to maybe ease my embarrassment slightly..
After months of building an off road trailer in my spare time ( which like a lot of us is rare ,wife, kids, work etc ) I finally got it " Blue Slipped "(NSW roadworthy certified ) Friday and then registered Saturday morning I thought it only fair to take the family on a nice day trip 4wding / touring, have a BBQ, kids have a play etc on Sunday. Somewhere we had not been previously, so after a brief chat with wife decided to go around Yengo National Park ( 1 hour west of Sydney CBD approx ) and follow a trip out of a book of 4wd day trips around Sydney. The starting point for this particular trip was a place called Wisemans Ferry which I entered in GPS and off we go. With no knowledge of this place and eager to get moving I did no more reading of this trip just wanted to get there so we could start and go bush. After about 90 mins of travel through winding countryside ( we live in Newcastle , 2 hours north of Syd ) we finally arrived at WF but there was a queue to cross the river.it so happened that thre are 2 vehicle ferries,6 car and a 24 car. Of course today the 24 car was not working hence the queue. So after waiting the best part of an hour to get across whilst keeping 3 kids entertained ( until the boat ride ) so our day adventure could begin we finally got across..hooray.
As we drove into this nice little place I got out my book to follow directions from Post Office as the starting point. As some of you who know the area may have already figured out, my first instruction was to proceed to car Ferry , cross the river , turn left and continue on to Yengo NP!
I have no idea why I did not even think to read the book a bit earlier but I just didn't and thought I would share as it may help someone else think about the smallest obvious thing when setting out for a nice day out with family. I thought I would feel better about sharing as from time to time we all have one of these moments, wondered if anyone else has an experience they would like to post. I did not mean for it to go this long but hope someone got a laugh, albeit at my expense.
Just to clarify, we continued on to outer suburbs of Sydney for quick lunch for kids only to find out that the Freeway to get home was closed due to fire..
Did I mention it was not one of my betters day?

    My story is this:

Went away for a long weekend, middle of summer, house all locked up.

Came home to the unmistakeable smell of dead rodent right through the place. After much sniffing (and remember what you are smelling are microscopic particles of the item) I tracked the thing to behind our built-in dishwasher.

Unhooked the drain hose and pulled it out from its recess and there it was, across the live terminals at the back and boy, was it green. The missus and small child were beside themselves by this time saying "Get rid of it, NOW!". I thought, best bet, down the garbage muncher, so down he goes, hit the water followed by the power switch just as I think "Hang on, I've pulled the dishwasher hose off the drain".

Sure enough I'd managed to spray minced mouse all over the inside of the cupboard...wasn't laughing too much at the time but can see the funny side now.

    Cheers,

    Dave

      My Story,

Heading back from a big week at bathurst 1000 via the back way (same way the Car Carriers take) just following the cars in front....

Girl friend (at the time..) asleep in the front, following the cars.....1 hour goes by.....not many cars in front....another hour...one car in front..... Girl Friend wakes up just as the last car turns off.....she says "Where the F$#k are we"??? Honestly I did not know I was just following the other cars that I guessed were on their way back to melbourne..... ~2 hours later we were back on track...

Part 2: So to get back on track I worked the VP SS a bit harder to make up time, rear end started to feel a bit loose... rear wheels starting to rub guards on turns (lowered)... Stop to check the back end.... allot of movement, checked the adjustable Panhard rod...looks OK...pulled the carpet up in the boot (after getting everythingout...fully loaded).. The top mount for the panhard rod was coming completely away from the chassis, ~5 inch's of crack around the weld point. BUGGER!!

      Bernie.
