  • Re: fuel prices

I was listening to the radio today and heard on the 'my generation' show that fuel was only 12c/L in 1974. Those were the days.

Yeah but an XY GTHO falcon 3 years previous was 5 1/2 thousand. About the same price as a house.

There's a caltex down the road that has diesel for 104.9. less 4c with a voucher and another 4c if you spend $5 in shop. thats 96.9c per litre which is insane! cheapest fill in the 4 years l've had the Prado. and about 10c cheaper than unleaded..

12c/l, I remember that. Not me but mum filling up the v8 valiant at Golden Fleece. How times have changed service at the station and someone to check the oil and water.

Fuel might have been cheaper then but the cars were not as good or as reliable as now.

off the top of my head when we were travelling up to Darwin from Melbourne 3 weeks ago we didn't pay over $1.45 and that was in Marla after the oodnadatta track. It was pretty consistant all the way up here except small towns as always.

The funny thing about spending $5 in store to qualify for an extra 4c is if you are filling the average family car of around 70L that equates to an additional saving of $2.80 which cost you $5.00 for the privelage. Now it's alright if you need the bread or milk but that is overpriced as well.

yeah i always laugh at that, for the same reason, for average joe putting under 50l's in it's a rort..... but when you put over 150l in, then you save $6, by spending $5... i look at it like a "free" bottle of milk or a couple of lollie bags or whatever 2 for $5 deal they have going on near the counter at the time!

Marla, Kulgera, Erldunda, Cadney Park, are by far the most expensive places to fill up along the Stuart HWY. I drive by them or use them for toilet stops only.

Currently Shell in Alice is at $129.9 for diesel but I reckon it is about to go up as I saw $139.9 for ULP this morning at BP.
