Petrol in Australia cost around $1.20 a litre for much of last year as the crisis drove down demand, but Mr James said a price of $1.30 to $1.35 was more likely for 2010.
So we can expect diesel to be between $1.40-$1.45 then. Typically in SA, diesel seems to be about 10c dearer. For a while there it was running on par or even below.. go figure!

Something that might need to be considered is that the Brazilians are making ethanol with the sugar cane right now. This also helps with the cost.
They could switch it back the other way any time, depending on prices. This also has affect on the sugar prices which has seen the locals get top dollar in the last season.

Now thats an idea if your liquor supply is running low just drain the fuel tank
HI all, July 2008 when we did the Tanami and the Gibb river Road if we could get diesel for around $2/litre we thought it was a bargain, Put in 170lts at drysdale river @$2.51 thats over 400 bucks just to fill up, saw it for $2.68 at Rabbit Flat, lucky we had a prado and was able to cover the 1100km Tanami stretch with out filling up (towing the camper) and didnt have to fill up until Halls Creek. unfortunatly after topping up here for $2.05/litre i discovered we had put a hole in the rear tank (stone jammed between tank and protector plate). its a long story but after draining the fuel into another tourists 4wd and five hours under the car on the side of the road we got going again. that was an expensive tank of fuel. Toyota dealer in Halls Creek couldnt have been more unhelpful if they tried, they couldnt even help with a couple of litres of water to wash my hands when i was finshed.
Cheers Andrew

I have noticed here in Qld at the moment that diesel is as cheap as the ethanol unleaded (cheapest one) about 1.26lt. The other unleaded and premium unleaded are both more expensive than diesel. Why?

I have just done a trip from Cairns down to the Gold Coast and back and I was surprised that fuel was cheaper 100+ km's away from the major towns that in the major towns, and in some places it was up to 4c per litre cheaper.
Now if that is not profiteering by fuel companies I don't know what is.
Craig,
Some country petrol stations don't follow the weekly price cycle. So depending on the day of the week, it would appear that the country petrol stations are cheaper.
