    • We're paying $1.699 in South Hedland at the moment. About the same for unleaded as well. Grabbed 40 litres for the generator and just waiting for Rusty to knock out the power, surprised it has lasted this long

Yeah, but 10 bucks would last you at least a whole week down there on that little island, wouldn't it?

            • You guys think that prices are bad now what do you think happens when our exchange rate goes back to 0.70 USD ? Or when demand from Europe and the US pick up... Or when the cost of capital goes back up...

Australian prices are linked to the Singapore Gas Oil prices as that's where our market operates. It doesn't matter that they pull the refinery feedstock out of bass strait, it the comparison between what they could sell it for on the open market that sets the prices.

More good news, if you hate it that much and choose to walk or ride your electric bike you still get stung as transport companies just pass on the fuel price anyway through the product you buy.

Oh and watch out for tax increases if the government doesn't get enough revenue through the excise tax...

              • It's been widely reported that Coles express purchases fuel from Shell at 1c lower than terminal gate price. If 85% of users fill up from a Coles Express service station then Coles makes a loss on average of $350,000 per year at that site. However Coles has seen a significant increase in supermarket sales as customer look to get a docket for discount fuel more than offsetting the operating loss at each coles express site.

I used to be able to see how much a shell service station would pay when I delivered the fuel and compared it to the board price. Its not on the invoice anymore except for some customers .

                  • For a few years up until a few months ago Toowoomba was always cheaper than Brisbane with fuel prices. Than a few months ago the suburbs I visited on the north side of Brisbane regularly were charging $1.36/L for unleaded when Toowoomba for the first time in ages was more expensive at $1.44/L - $1.46/L. That was short lived and those north Brisbane suburbs are now charging $1.50 for unleaded & Toowoomba is now $1.44 every day of the week give or take a cent from one side of Toowoomba to the other. When I lived in Brisbane I used to buy 200 litres of fuel on a Tuesday once a month and worked out that it saved me $25 approx each time, than filling up on a Thursday. Well all that's gone out the window now and the cheap days have been staggered from week to week for ages now so nobody knows when the cheap day is going to occur anymore.

                              • When you only have one outlet you have a captive audience. Not like you can just drive 170km to Leinster or 300km to Meeka and fill up.
