interestingly enough, when the country had the price investigation into fuel, ULP dropped by 15% for the entire investigation, but diesel never changed. The media got off the backs of the fuel companies and ULP slowly crept up again.
The media never mentions the price of diesel even though that is the backbone of the countries frieght haulage.

Having never owned a diesel powered anything, I've not paid any attention to current price trends. With our rugged Prado just 2-months away I'm noticing now.

Today at Caltex pump, I noticed a little sticker:

      Buying diesel?

Did you know the fuel bowser price includes 8.354 cpl fuel subsidy from the Queensland Government?

Well, no I didn't. The bowser price was 1.37 for diesel and 1.35 for ULP.

Not a bad subsidy really. [edit - deleted].

PS: Promise myself to try hard not to use a combination ULP/Diesel bowser for ULP... give the Diesels a fair go!

Ha!! here's a gem from the archives, fuel at 1.47/litre :!: :!: WE WISH :!:

Heard a story on Adelaide radio the other day, think it was also in the paper, that people wouldn't start thinking about changing their commuting habits until petrol was around $2.25/litre :!:

So by my rough calcs that's about 12-14 months away at the current rate of price rises

When I ordered my diesel Prado in July 2007 the diesel was at about 5c dearer than ULP. It made more sense to buy a diesel car for what I wanted and its claimed economy. Last week in Melbourne-20c difference!
I could have rather bought a petrol GXL for 51k at the time not a diesel GX with Option for 52K!
And it looks like it is getting worse. You can't win with those petrol companies (whinge)

Diesel near me is $1.73 at BP. Very ouch.

Did anyone catch a story about Diesel being made from coal this week? I think I heard it on the radio. Never knew this was possible. We certainly won't run out of coal anytime soon. We still have absolute bucketloads of coal.

Also did anyone also see the extended continental shelf boundaries on the news last week? Australia now apparently has an area greater than the size of France added to our recognised continental shelf. Oil driven. The new areas are prime oil country. Time will tell if we see any benefit though.

Can you convert D4D's over to natural gas?? I'm sorely tempted. Australia also has absolute bucketloads of Natural Gas reserves.

By Carola Hoyos in London, Financial Times, 28 Apr 2008.

Opec's president on Monday warned oil prices could hit $200 a barrel and there would be little the cartel could do to help.

The comments made by Chakib Khelil, Algeria's energy minister, came as oil prices hit a historic peak close to $120 a barrel, putting further pressure on global economies.

His remarks suggest Algeria wants Opec to continue to resist calls by US and European leaders for the cartel to pump more oil to help ease prices. But Mr Khelil blamed record oil prices on the weak dollar and global political insecurity.

He told El Moudjahid, Algeria's government newspaper: "I don't think that an increase in production would help lower prices, because there is a balance between supply and demand and the stocks of gasoline in the United States have recorded a surplus and are at their highest level for five years."

He added: "The prices are high due to the recession in the United States and the economic crisis, which has touched several countries, a situation that has an effect on the value of the dollar. Each time the dollar falls 1 per cent, the price of the barrel rises by $4 and of course vice versa."

Some US senators have pinned the blame for high oil prices directly on Opec and Saudi Arabia, its largest and most powerful member.

In a letter to President George W.?Bush last week, they said Riyadh had cut its oil production by about 2m barrels a day over the past three years, even though oil prices had continued to rise.

Phew, it's just as well most of us don't worry about fuel economy and fuel prices.

                  Could be worse.
The UK had one of its pipe lines close due to strike action. 1/3 of the UK's fuel comes throught that, so empty stations everywhere due to panic buying.....

Was doing some trip planning and using a trip log from feb 07. The highest price was middle of nullabor @ $1.60 with the lowest price at $1.18 at kurrajong NSW for diesel.... ah, those were the days... i remember when ..blah blah... blah ...blah
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

You could replace the word diesel for lpg and still be 100% correct. they got ya no matter which way you turn.

Seeing diesel regularly around Adelaide over the last couple of days at 175.9cpl. We grabbed some today at 169.5cpl, can you believe that :!:

Is that high compared to other mainland cities :?:

To think 18 months ago I had to pay 189.9 at the Roper Bar in NT and thought they were just ripping me off.
In 2001 and 2003 the Cape was a steady 115.9 and some southerner complained about the price.

                            Thanks Pedro,

Have registered, had a quick look around Adelaide, and it seems our 169.5cpl was about the cheapest diesel around, should have filled up
