I met the "last Great Australian Explorer", (at least he was in 1995) and this, unfortunately isn't him, because Len Beadell died in 1995. Len certainly explored, surveyed and named some icons around Australia...Woomera Rocket Range Survey, Gunbarrel Highway, Anne Beadell Highway etc etc
Unfortunately Len hasn't risen from the dead (as far as I know), but ...and completely off topic, if anyone hasn't read Len Beadell's books you need to try and get hold of his books..somewhere, because they are a fantastic insight into australian exploration and adventure.
- Beadell, Len (1976). Beating About the Bush.
- Beadell, Len (1967). Blast The Bush.
- Beadell, Len (1971). Bush Bashers.
- Beadell, Len (1983). End of an Era.
- Beadell, Len (1975). Still in the Bush.
- Beadell, Len (1965). Too Long in the Bush.
- Outback Highways (A compilation of the above books)
- Around The World In 80 Delays: A Traveller's Tale
As for this gent in the photo, sorry, no idea just yet, but thinking...

Yep Andrew, the Desert Walker, named The Lone Gumtree, Big Red, when he did his solo walks thru the Simmo, I could not believe that afternoon in Mt Dare when meeting the very few people camped there that when his son told us he was walking the Simmo like his sister and dad did and then told us his name, I only just read a few of Denis's exploits a month before getting ready to cross the Simmo, Denis's daughter did it about 8 years before to raise money for breast cancer foundation. The first white man to cross the Simpson west to east, north to south solo, his son had a good pace up but slowed down with a knee flare up, but still finished, would have almost beaten us if we didn't have to race to Birdsville midway in our trip as someone died in our party sitting around the campfireBlue Storm 150 GXL 4D4 PRADO and 2014 Cub Brumby Camper

I must admit that I knew nothing about the man until I went looking with the help of my mate google, sounds like an impressive guy. I know the thought of doing a big desert crossing on foot has crossed my mind before, actually doing it though hasn't come close, hats off to anyone with the balls to take on something like that.
