Two I would suggest (and both easy).

Chuck steak stew (best to use that as the most tasty), and just add a full can of Guiness to get the magic taste.....and whatever veggies you wish fior bulk....Irish stew, always a winner.

Lamb Shanks, Chopped up Onion, Garlic (fresh is best so you can cut up and insert) and about half a bottle (say 500Mls) of Red Wine (Cask Shiraz is perfect).....cook to the meat starts coming off the bone. Best served with mash.
150 Silver Diesel GXL Auto with ECB Bullbar, Toyota Factory towbar, Black Widow Drawer system with Fridge slide and cargo barrier, GME UHF 3340 Radio, Waeco 50 Litre Fridge, Rhino Racks and Rhino Basket, ARB Awning, IPF XS Spotties, ABR Sidewinder Dual Battery system,Airtec Snorkel, Bilstien Shockies, King Springs, Poly Airbags and BFG A/T''s. Now towing a semi offroad Lotus Freelander 18.6 Van, with all the bells and whistles.

This isn't a good thread to read at this time of day (6pm).
Both these sound damn good, might take a trip down to the camping store and grab an oven to try them out this weekend.

For the past 15 years I have used a paint scraper then rinse and wash with hot soapy water, rinse then over the fire or on the gas stove to dry and heat the oven. Then wipe liberally with vegetable oil (NOT OLIVE OIL) then do the same with the lid. This way the oil gets into the pores of the iron and is always ready to go again.

Some people believe that detergent leave a taste in the oven. The way that I do my ovens does not!

Apple crumble is a real favourite of mine at the moment and the kids love getting their hands dirty making the crumble.
Another good one is mix a chocolate cake premix and put in a block of caremelo chocolate then bake in the camp oven, turns out nice and goey in the middle.
          Cheers Matt

Those all sound awesome. Going in our recipe book. Our love is Gourmet Camp oven pizza! (With home made dough) always goes down well with my munchkins. Definitely need a trivet though. Something about a wood fired pizza!

Partial to corned beef too. I remember free camping in WA, and doing a corned beef with boiled veggies all done in the same oven over a fire, whilst the young couple next to us did two minute noodles on their butane one ring burner. They kept staring at us wistfully. I thought they were going to stab us with their forks and steal the food.

That's the best thing about the camp oven,,,,,,, THE FOOD that comes out of it.
I often use my ovens at home by using heat beads. Works very well and you get to experiment with different foods at your own pace.

Hot chocalate damper with cold custard and icecream goes down well after a roast with all the veges.

that's about the best way I know to get kids to eat a really good meal.

Hey Rev hows it going hope you are using Renee's (Stewy's better halfs) premixed from BCF for the damper they are great and very simple. I use the Heat Beads lighter (looks like a metal kettle) for my at home camp ovens.

See ya on the tracks, (Vic GTG?) Richo.

I was using the premix, but now we premix our own. (Great idea Renee+++++++)

Pizza, with the bases made on site, are my speciality. Kelly makes apple strudel and the best sticky date puddings. There is nothing you cannot make in a camp oven.

Our favourite is the marinated butterflied lamb from Woolies (criovacced ready to go, great for camping). It on the bottom of the camp oven, roast vegies on top, and as someone else add, biggest problem is never any left for lunch, kids love it!!!

On a side note, welding gauntlets (gloves) are the best accessory I've got for my camp oven, can pick up and hold the hot oven for quite some time, making very easy to deal with it.

Usually we do the normal stew and damper. But for the Western Australia Day long weekend we were at Sandy Cape and I did a silverside in the camp oven.

It had the usually bay leaf, peppercorns, onions, garlic etc but I used dry ginger ale instead of water. Served it with corn on the cob, baked potatoes and I had a couple of packets of white sauce. Turned out really well and there wasn't any left at the end haha.

Have also done some mean curries in there too. It definitely gets a work out whenever we go camping, and I'm usually the one that does the cooking!
