Nice add..I was thinking it looked a bit 'englishy', was thinking whilst viewing the UK brought in seat belt laws @the mid 80's?? My old man always bought commercial 4wd's with a metal bench seat running parallel aka Mk2 landies or soft spongy one's (Daihatsu Fourtrack), surprised I'm still alive really as there were no belts in all of them! God bless.

Funny how everyone reads and valuates things from a different perspective?

I personally thought that it was a very powerful add and that it driven home the fact that if you don't wear a seat belt (In this guys case in the vid) he could (Kill him self!) and leave behind his daughter and his wife all for the sake of not wearing a seat belt?

I suppose if you don't have any loved one's (Possums not included! ... Lol) then i suppose your perspective on the value of your own life would probably be different?... Maybe?

Some respond to the shock of gore!..... Some respond to the thought of loosing loved ones!...

I believe both in there own right just as powerful as each other! Cheers

            The add in question below

I think it's a brilliant ad, the first time I saw it was on tv in the UK, and I thought the ending was the best the way the family mimics the seat belt.

Also I agree with Jasen, it's just habit, ever since I was a kid, if you were in the car you belted up. I'm told as a small kid once I went nuts in the back seat because mum forgot to strap my sister in.

I started driving in 1987, 26 years ago and it was already the law. Clunk click every trip was the ad campaign in the UK and it stuck with me.

I would never drive anywhere without one on its a no brainer not to mention the bloody bing bing bing that I couldn't stand for more than 30 seconds.

Sorry if it upsets anyone but whenever I see a seatbelt add, I just think stop wasting my tax money because if there are still people stupid enough to drive without one after 1/4 century of legislation and advertising they are never going to get it and maybe its time to allow them to euthanise themselves because they have made their decision.
I grew up taking road trips in the back of a Holden panel van, and trips around town standing up in the back of a ute, but I can't sit in a car without wearing a seatbelt now. I feel too exposed and unsafe. I just don't know how people feel safe not wearing one.

Ads of any kind won't stop some people. I have a friend who still thinks belts are unnecessary despite bouncing round the inside of an FJ40 after a head on, whilst not wearing a seatbelt. Relatively slow speed thankfully. His attitude amazes me

On farms/stations I rarely wear one because you're constantly moving around/getting out and there's not much to hit.

Problem is I sometimes forget when I get onto sealed roads.

Funnily enough, and it's no excuse, but out of 5 or so friends in serious crashes. 4 survived probably because they weren't wearing seatbelts. And the one who was died.

                  Shit happens. Buckle up.

I'm amazed that anyone thinks its ok to drive pissed.

I'm amazed that some people think its ok to drive with their elbows whilst eating a bowl of cereals.

I'm amazed that some people think its ok to drive with a news paper on the steering wheel.

The thing that amazes me the most is that my tax money is still being wasted on these retards. I say wait till they come to a safe stop and shoot them in the back of the head! Too far?
Yep i'm with you Jase, I can't believe some of the things I see on the road. After seeing some of the complete retards (and it's not the young kids either it's the 40+ group) I think every couple of years everyone should have to do a refresher test, just the theory and it can be open book just to make people read and be aware the rules. Some of the shit I see, like idiots stopping in a round about to let entering traffic through because they think they have to give way to them, then abusing the other driver for being confused by what the idiot is doing. I saw it twice in 2 weesk up here....unbelievable.

I know a lady who used to be absolutely smoking hot, she had an acco with no belt on and went halfway through the windscreen, she now has a glass eye and a huge scar the entire way down her face.

I hear you Jasen. The massive amount of undertaking does really get to me. It happens a bit in Europe (UK) but seems more accepted as a given over here...just gotta live with it I guess???

I've never been to the States but I catch your drift with the Freeway thing, pick a lane and stay there as long as you like! The Motorway (UK) slow left lane, med/fast middle lane for overtaking slowuns then the right fast lane does make more sense to me but it would take generations to change people's driving habits. I guess I'll just keep on adapting/evolving ..just like Darwin's finches!! Good luck with flashing your lights, I use to do it acknowledging cars in front of me, so they knew I had seen them and they could till turn in/pull out in front of me..(continual flow). Don't do it know...just causes too much confusion/blank faces!!

Then if they don't pull over you undertake them and beep your horn so they know you are there and they don't pull over and hit you.

I think the biggest problem is that we call it a freeway like the US and a free way in the US means just that you can just pick a lane and stay there for as long as you like.

I'm not prepared to live with it, I just do it the European way and flash them. It's incredible how many people are clueless that they are doing something wrong and don't understand why they are being flashed.

I think there should be an advertising campaign on the use of freeways and fog lights.
The biggest difference is that in the UK it's illegal to stay in the right hand lane unless you are overtaking, so people will move over. And it's enforced.

Same for fog lights. Front or back.

I find the Aussie drivers generally clueless compared to the UK. Sydney drivers are woeful. Left a Safe gap on the freeway? I'll fill it with my car. No cars in the left lane? I'll just stay in the right lane so i dont have to merge later. Trying to merge? I'll accelerate into the gap you're aiming for.

1970 in Vic, 1971 in NSW, 1972 rest of states. The evidence of their effect was proven by Snowy Mountains Scheme compulsory wearing of seatbelts by workers in the sixties, severely reducing injuries and death toll.
