  • Woman walks CSR solo

A South African woman has just completed the CSR taking 66 days to complete it on foot. She had no support crew but buried supplies along the way. Apparently she got scared when a camel charged her. She reckoned she didn't see too many motorists. She was doing it to raise funds for a Sth African wheel-chair rugby team.

Saw her walking on the CSR. She said she was doing a 'short' walk as she had broken her back a couple of years ago...
Her name is Gaynor. Amazing woman. It was hard enough to drive it!
      We also made a donation.

Wow that's pretty tough. We ran into a guy on a fat tired mountain bike when we were on the CSR a few years ago. But he had back up a couple of days behind him.

At least this bird made it otherwise there would be a search to locate her remains.

Agree, as long as those pedals are attached to something with a capacity of at least 3 litres.

I dont know. I've always wanted to do it on. a trail bike. A 450cc would do.

Bushbasher - Sorry to disappoint re the opportunity of going on a search for my remains. I had that covered.

A SPOT with tracking activated, PLUS an additional search and rescue insurance policy, PLUS medivac insurance, PLUS I am in direct contact with the SPOT GEOS Alliance rescue co-ordinator and notified him of my latest adventure. As I did on my previous the Canning hitchhikes in 2010 and 2011. I do try to be careful and minimise my impact on others.

The lightest bike are favoured on the Canning. Here is a Yamaha whatever that was the best performing bike in this group of 4 I cant link to the specific image but you will find it in this album near the bottom.

I am building a page on the history of canning cyclists here http://www.canningwalker.com/index.p...story/cyclists

Can you point out which one had the support vehicle or if I have missed a cyclist in my research. Any info would be appreciated.

Hello Jon of 'F' Troop :-) Thank you for you contribution to the quad rugby wheelchair. You contribution has been noted here.

Much appreciated. We are still several thousand dollars short, but the fundraising continues. I am dedicating 2 years to this fundraiser as quad rugby wheelchairs cost a whopping $8500. Sayeed will never be able to afford this chair on his own. We will get there.

:-) if more people walked, less money would be spent on health care.

This walker walked the Canning 14 months after breaking her spine in two places. Burst vertebra and chipped and compressed vertebra. Compliments of a paragliding accident. Walking was part of my recovery. I am good as gold now - with zero surgery.

TV interviewer wanted me to say I saw few people but I declined so they made the presenter say that line. Four days was the longest time without a passing motorist - rains bogged people down. Two days was the usual time between seeing a vehicle. Some days it was a circus - up to 30 vehicles. Other days, just a lone motorist.

My walk took 66 days, but the vast majority of nights I camped in the wilds on my own.
