  • Yesterday I serviced a 2005 Hilux, no service since he owned it, a year? Not sure how many Klm's not sure, guessing 20-30k?
Thought that oil was pretty bad, amazingly the oil pickup screen was clear.
Today first off the rank 2007 d40 diesel Navara, 20k overdue, that's right it was 30k since its last service, 225,000odd klms, nothing I haven't seen before, but this was serviced in December 2012, 8 months ago - ( not by me) It took an hour for most of the thick glug to come out. One of the worst I've ever seen that's still running.
Jelly is the best way to describe it. Bloody messy shit too. What did I learn? Not much but hopefully you might!!!

    • Maybe that the Navara diesel is tough enough to run on jelly?

Maybe that's why they started running the jelly.

That maybe - but the work diesel ones are woeful to drive. Auto's and you put your right foot into them, and makes lots of noise - and that is about it, an hour later you are now doing 50 km/h....Don't even get me started on the Holden Colorado's.....

              • I will second the comments about the Navara. More kW at the engine but they go AWOL on the way to the wheels.

Probably all that ends up in our fleet are the lower end models - I'm quite sure that it is normally aspirated.

I don't tend to pop the bonnet on work vehicles, as the "owner" gets take home rights...

                    • I learned today that I must spend tax refund on batteries for the Prado as well as REDARC isloator. My electric cooler (no a fridge with a compressor), will now drain my aux battery making my UHF useless.

As well, suspension will need attention - but that is down the track...

                      • I learned that everyone who went to my local tax agent have received big bills from the tax man for dodgy travel claims. I was booked in to get mine done next month.
