  • Tip for Campers!

Just a little tip I picked up whilst camping over the (rather wet) weekend.......

put shadecloth down under your tents or swags - not tarps. That way the water soaks through little holes and drains away. You get a nice "clean feel" below you and no nasty pools of water hanging around.

    Simple but very effective!!

There are probably more "commercial" solutions on the market but a few square metres of shade cloth from bunnings or somewhere works great. Cheap, lightweight and practical.

Just a thought for any other campers. (might have come in handy at Barrington Tops fellas!! )

Been using it for years. Peg out a section in front of the tent opening as it catches the sand off feet and keeps the tent a lot cleaner.

      Camping tips

Yes. I realise I am always the last to know these things ops:

Any other camping tips out there from Pradopoint campers :?:

Here's a couple more i can think of:

Those little headlamps are great. Gives you two free hands to prepare meals etc...(Matt, Samo and other miners know this one of course).

You can buy plastic "clogs" from Big W for abouit $8.00. Safer than thongs I reckon cause you don't slip out of them. Real easy to take on/off when leaving/entering the tent.

Use "Riggers" or recovery type leather gloves around the campfire. Great for handling hot saucepans/billies etc or when chopping/carting wood.

Please contribute if you have any little camping tips you have picked up along the way.

My tip is also for campers with trailers.

If you leave real early in the morning (before dawn) and you've been packing stuff into your trailer just prior to leaving, make sure the tail gate is shut properly before you take off.

We took off to head up north and got about 10 kms down the road before I discovered the tail gate swinging in the breeze. Fortunately I had packed everything so well that we only lost the bag containing the swimming gear.

Everytime swimming is mention now I slink off to the doghouse as I lost my wifes favourite pair of bathers during that debacle. ops:

I've learnt not to go where angels fear to tread, but my left eye did suffer from a large swelling not long after she discovered her bathers missing were missing.

                          Camping Tips

Here's a few more tips I can think of for campers......

                          1) Dont camp too close to the river incase it rises.
                          2) Dont put your tent too close to the fire incase cinders burn it
                          3) Watch the prevailing wind - try to pitch your tent/swag to avoid smoke from the fire.
                          4) your first aid kit should include "Stingoes", Panadol, sunscreen, aerogard and band aids. These are the items I always seem to use!
                          5) Carry several boxes of matches in your glovebox and gear incase one packet gets wet.
                          6) Dont waste matches trying to light a fire - carry firelighters. work smarter not harder
                          7) When you first find your camp spot - pitch your tents and look for firewood before it gets dark. Throw a tarp over your woodpile incase of rain.
                          8) Zip up your tent/swag during the day to keep out snakes/insects!
                          9) Even though you are camping - Say G'Day to other campers in the area. You may make new friends and learn something new.
                          10) Take good quality garbage bags so you take all your rubbish home with you.

                            Here is my tip

Get an old stocking and put some soap in it.(similar to soap on a rope )Tie it up next to a bucket of water so you can clean your hands with out dropping the soap.

Works great if you have messy kids.

Cyalume Light Sticks are fantastic for instant lighting around a camp. You can set up a few just before dark that lead to the loo, or to the swag. That way when you are drunk - its basically follow the light and you wont fall in cause you can see in the dark.

Cheap and last for years the the camping gear. Easy and safe disposal also.
SSSHHHH be very very quiet were huntin wabbits.
