Thanks for posting, that's not a bad idea, I reckon they'd be single use, but I tend to produce the materials to make more!

That is way cool, just knocked up a stove, took about 5 minutes. Can't wait to get some fuel tomorrow.

I wonder if it would work with other fuels, might try that as well !

      Cheers Andrew

That is most impressive. I often wonder everytime I have to load up for camping if we really do need all the modern camping stuff.

I have this great old book from the 1950's that used to belong to my dad, when things were simpler. It has a whole 5 pages on camping including this advice on creating camp cooking stoves

I couldn't help myself and just tried the stove with some Shellite, it certainly boiled the billy, however the Shellite doesn't burn clean so really blackens the billy.

I guess the hole might be for pressure relief, but no idea really.

These stoves are very popular with the lightweight hiking crowd. They are very good, but I would point out that if you forget your stove, you probably forgot your meths too.

I use a Jetboil on hikes. Yes, it's modern and relatively expensive compared to an empty beer can. The advantages are that it will boil water in a minute and it will still boil water in a windy environment. Beer can stoves can struggle with even a little bit of wind...

Methylated Spirits is the go for one of these if you don't want to track down any alcohol, works a treat and burns with a clean flame.

                    Cheers Andrew

Love this - what an excellent little kit. Especially if you can find the plastic container of the right size like he had. Even better would be if you could get one that fit the alcohol bottle in it too.

This would be an awesome project to get the kids to help with . Might need a fair degree of safety instruction (and secrecy form the mother) but the kids would love making a stove and then cooking their dinner off it.

I reckon that hole would be to allow the stove to draw in fresh air to help vaporise the fuel and add the required oxygen.

I am going to try and set this up so I can store the stove, fuel, container for extinguishing it, tea bags, Sugar and a cup all inside my billy! I might be looking for compact and light setup for the odd trip with my new wheels http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post444637

                          Cheers Andrew
