  • Nissan not a boat

A couple of blokes and a pile of kids were driving from Darwin to Halls Creek. They took the Duncan Hwy route, probably because the sealed highway is closed due to flooding, especially around Fitzroy Xing and Halls Creek. As you can see, the Patrol didn't get through and became stuck as they tried to back out. One bloke walked for 3 days to get help, swimming across numerous creeks. The remaining fella swam across a creek and was found by local pastoralists. A helicopter then arrived and all were rescued. They had no comms or PLB. One of the pastoralists said anyone travelling along the flooded outback roads was crazy. Everyone was aware of the rain that had fallen across the NT and far NE of WA. Flood alerts have been issued for days now and many roads subject to closure.

Unbelievable. Some of the best trips I've had are finding a place where "thee shall not pass" due to excessive dampness and plonking ourselves for a day or three to figure out what to do next.

    A couple of questions:

Who is the muscle car fan?

Whats the story behind the crispy bus?

And what happened to that FJ???

Can someone explain all those questions to me? I have no idea...

Pretty freaking silly to go somewhere like that, how it was, with no comms or anything. I always get put off even a 30min drive out of town in case we're too far from anyone for our UHF to work. If there's a 2 or more vehicles though, go hard! :P

I heard about this on the radio yesterday, It sounds like all them are alive mainly due to dumb luck. The Police were pretty upset about the whole thing and were pointing out that too many resources are being used to rescue to people doing stupid things in the outback.

Its one thing to do dumb things and risk your life, but when 3 children get their lives put at risk that's just plain irresponsible, borderline criminal.

Unfortunately there is no IQ test before buying a 4wd.

          Cheers Andrew

The tax payer again footed the bill for a fixed wing aerial search. These 2 mobs had left Newman heading to Wiluna for a funeral. They chose the dirt road option because no one has a drivers licence and the cars are un-registered. No, they were not Caucasian. And then another car gets stuck on another flooded and closed road - the Leonora - Laverton Road whilst trying to get to the Kookynie pub. In an old Falcon FFS. Flat battery, rings up on mobile phone and wants somebody to bring out jumper leads. We're not the bloody RAC. No, not Caucasian either. They will spend heaps of dough on cartons of grog and they all have mobile phones but won't watch the road condition reports or weather forecasts. Then Victorian tourist rings up from near Boondi Rock (between Coolgardie and Southern Cross). His Jeep is stuck and he walked off and now is lost. GE Hwy was closed to all traffic. Luckily, he stumbled across a mining outfit and they got him back to his car and caravan. Yep, they outta sell bags of common sense at BCF and Rays Oudoors. Another great day in the Goldfields.
                Yep,
We have a crew out there doing some overtaking lane upgrades on the Goldfields Highway. As the storm was hitting and the fly camp flooding the crew evacuated back to Perth by means of LV's. They were going out with rising water and there are people trying to drive past them heading into the location we were running from. No snorkel, poorly maintained vehicles and no real idea of what laid ahead. We have had 2 road closures up that way and it amazes me how many cars and trucks drive right on through.

                Cheers,
