  • (OT) what would you do in the event of a zombie apocalypse?

This is a discussion I've had with a mate (who it seems is turning into a Prepper) for ages.
He wants to go outback where he goes prospecting as there is no one around for miles and miles.
I would pack the family, a bag of clothes each, the swags and all my fishing gear in the Prado and head north where there is more rainfall for fresh water. Then steal a boat to get to an island off the coast to get away as I'd assume that zombies can't swim.

They can't swim but they can't drown so they'll just walk across the bottom of the river/lake whatever. Have you never seen Land of the Dead?

Actually I reckon you've only got to last a few weeks. No one ever takes account of the number of flies we have in this country. They lay eggs on rotting meat, which is what a zombie is right? Eggs turn to maggots, maggots eat dead flesh. Zombies slowly get eaten up.

Sure we'd have a plague of flies for a few months but all good after that.

He obviously hasn't done much prospecting. Everywhere I have been, and I have been prospecting for around 10 years, you'll always find a bunch of Victorians or Queenslanders (mostly) harboured up like the proverbial wagon train. They come over here and plunder all our gold. They don't have miner's rights and they are more than happy to rip through other peoples leases and mining tenements without permission. There's always somebody out there, trust me. You'd be better off heading out to the more central parts of Australia where there are no leases. Only problem with this is the extremes of weather and lack of back-up resources so you would need to be properly "prepped."

Now why has this not been factored into those horror movies! The best example of lateral thinking I have seen in a while!!

Walk across the ocean floor? Then they'd get eaten by sharks and we've got zombie sharks to look out for. Maybe that could be a sequel to Sharknado
