It was ironic today that while PM RUDD was announcing the Federal Government's $43 billion super-fast national broadband network initiative, the entire Northern Territory was without Internet, mobile and many other telecommunication services due to a major outage by Telstra. Indeed, '000' was the only reliable telephone number if anyone needed to report an emergency, whereas all other numbers were useless (including 131, 1800 numbers, etc). Businesses were nearly crippled as all electronic banking services were also off line during the outage meaning not ATMs, credit card transactions, electronic funds transfers, etc.
The outage lasted eight hours in total (3am to 11am) and even resulted in Emergency Counter Disaster plans being implemented to deal with the loss of communications. I guess before investing so much money into 'new technology', it would be nice if they could just guarantee the existing network!
Today I stopped at some traffic lights and saw the 4wd beside me with a padlock clearly visible securing their towbar to their vehicle - only problem was that the padlock still had its key firmly sitting in the padlock.

I don't mean to make light of the current flooding occurring interstate (which is tragic), but I saw this photo online and wondered if water in fuel might be a problem afterwards?

At least your service station didn't look like this! Taken earlier this month in Maddington, Perth.
This servo is about 10 minutes from my house - but I fill up at BP, not Caltex!
I tell ya, once this happened, I went to fill up the wife's car - pulled into the servo, and while I was filling up I kid you not, the fuel tanker pulled in. I just wanted to get the hell outta there!
