No it's not Port Arthur, but it is a convict ruin, It's quite an extensive complex but for some reason has fallen of the mainstream tourist map.

Try this then: Coal mines convict settlement, near Saltwater River?

Don't think it is, but I'll give Sarah Island a go.

Yes it is... good work. Taken from approx the bake house oven ruin looking north over the main buildings of the settlement. To the right and out of picture are the underground cells, to the left are the ruins of the officers/ administrators homes and soldiers quarters.

For some reason I liked it here more than Port Arthur... didn't have to fight the crouds (had the place to ourselves all afternoon) and it was free!!

If you're back Schaffer, you might like to post ... go for it :!: . Let's try to keep it away from WA for a bit

I'll also have a go at posting a photo - might pick one from our recent trip. Could take me a while to work it out ... I'm really not net savvy!

OK OK, didn't take you guys long to find ... almost the spot. June and I were trekking around the Snowys just recently. It even snowed for us in December and June made a little snowman on the top of Kosciuszko - man we nearly froze in the middle of summer.

So yes HG, it is Kosciuszko NP and it is a lake ... like DOH, who would know it was lake  ... but Spurio, it's not Blue Lake or Albina (don't know Albina). So neither of you are there yet!

Blue Lake would have been my first guess but seeing as it's not correct I'm going to say Lake Cootapatamba (sp?) I saw it once about 6 years ago and from my (hazy) memory it looks similar to the lake in your photo. It's just south of the summit of Kosciuszko if I remember correctly.

That's it Jeff. We were standing just next to this sign when the photo was taken. Your go mate :!:

Should be pretty obvious so I won't give any clues for now.

Looks like somewhere on the New England Plateau, towards Armidale. Cant remember the name of the spot.

right State Lofty, wrong spot though. It's further south than Armidale.
