Aboriginal tracker Pigeon shot and killed Captain Richardson in this station ...near Windjana Gorge. The station ruins are called Lillimooloora.

Tunnek creek, Lillimooloora Station and Windjana Gorge are one of my favourite haunts in WA.

Spot on!

His aboriginal name was Jandamarra. Bit of a case of switching loyalties as he once was a tracker with the police and ended his days in hiding, wanted by the police for killing the one he worked with.

A friend of mine is a historian and disputes the name Jandamarra and even whether he was a Bunaba but anyway.....

Nope, though I agree the road looks like the Victoria Highway did 25 years ago!

Big clue..........a lot of Aussies saw and cursed this spot many years ago.

Hmm.

I'm guessing Sturt Highway, NT, but no clue where exactly.

The 1600km road was built between Alice and Darwin around 1942, before then, it was a dirt track. Just as well they built it too...

Churchill's Head, old Stuart Highway?

An old section of the Stuart highway loops off the new highway for a few kilometres, 78 km south of Renner Springs. A rock by the roadside was thought to look like Winston Churchill by the WWII soldiers working on the road. It was one of the few features on an otherwise long and dusty trek between Alic and Darwin for the troops.
