Geraldine Lead Mine has considerable historic value as it is Western Australia's
first lead mine and has strong associations with the State's first lead smelter,
the Warribanno Chimney. The discovery of lead in the Murchison River and
the subsequent formation of the Geraldine Lead Mine was directly
responsible for opening up, at least in good measure, the Murchison and
Victoria districts and led to the establishment of Geraldton (Champion Bay),
Port Gregory and the Lynton Convict Depot. It was the first commercial
mining venture in Western Australia.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

Yep - you've got it. Australia's first lead smelter is recognised by the National Trust who organised some restorative work in 1972. The ore was brought in for smelting from the nearby Geraldine mine. Access is over an unsealed road, in fair condition, which commences from a point 3km west of Ajana. About 6km in from the Northwest Hwy on the Kalbarri Road. Great during wild flower time.
So – a very historic site the FIRST lead smelter in Australia – and no one recognized it
I have been trying to post another picture since before guessed this one. Had a really hard one too. But I've had problems. I don't know if it is just me - or the website. (Maybe a personality detector)
When I find I can do it - I'll post it - just for the laugh...
