But as to data collection......you would be extremely surprised what Google already know on you.
Anyone who has used google analytics to track usage of their websites will know how much data you can get on a user!

I have just loaded Windows 10 onto my laptop. - Don't do it unless you have carefully investigated the amount of spyware that comes with it. Don't just take the default settings or you will give Microsoft all you ever knew + some more. Contact details and the lot.

Anyway it comes with a new replacement for internet explorer - Microsoft Edge. When I used it on Pradopoint it couldn't reply to posts. If you want to post use Chrome or Firefox.

My impression is that its faster than Win 7 but the spyware bothers me. I think I have turned it all off now, assuming you can trust the settings.

I made the mistake of signing up for the early upgrade. After downloading the files I had second thoughts and ticked "Don't accept" on the license agreement. It stopped the install, but then every 5 min it started the download again and asked me to accept the license. In the end I just gave up and accepted it.

Be careful.

If your not doing anything wrong, what are you afraid of? Nothing is being stolen from you, unless you install the crapware that come with installing "free" programs that you can click to disable.

Get rid of your phone, and computer if your worried, but your just making it all up in your head. The only tracking that goes on is anonymous profiling for Google advertising. Don't like it? Turn it off on your account security.

I have been online since I was 12, that's more than 20 years and nothing has ever happened in that time. No viruses, no stolen credit cards, no hacked passwords, no 'spying' on my boring life. Just normal computer stuff, some no so legal at some stage. No authority knocking on my door.

Upgraded 20 computers at work from 8.1 to 10 this week, basically the same OS with minor interface improvements. All went smoothly though.

For me advertising ID and the get to know you feature are probably the most worrisome.




The only way you'll stop them getting your data is by not using the internet..

You already have an ID for advertising, it's an anonymous number that has no bearing on you personally other than if Google will show adds about Prado accessories or Pajero accessories when you visit a site that has Google advertising. Just turn it off on your google accounts page, problem solved. Just ignore the irrelevant adds instead.

Running fine here.
Just turn off the data collection. Just used to tailor ads mostly anyway.
Much better to use than Windows 8, looks pretty much like the Windows 7 desktop on a PC.

Actually it's pretty much windows 8.1 with an option to use a start menu that is exactly the same as the start screen, just smaller.

I have downgraded back to Win 7. Have a read some of the license agreement, have you? Its quite disturbing.

No I don't download any illegal stuff. I just like others (Microsoft in this case) to mind their own business. It wasn't too many years ago that we were upset at the Australia card. Things have moved way past that now. What right do they have to send my contacts to anyone else? What right do they have to know which brand of cereal I buy.

I have the right to install or uninstall whatever operating system I choose and am not sure that makes me a drama queen, just like to mind my own business and wish the big end of town would do the same.

I'm happy to use open office, and still use Office 2003. It works remarkably well.

Lol... man. You think microsoft is bad for data collection? Then keep your butt well clear of Ubuntu! Other OS distros for sure but Ubuntu is nasty with Amazon.

It keeps a log of your searches to send to Amazon to give you ads that are pertinent. Sounds like Microsoft and google right? Well here is the catch. With Ubuntu it's not just your online searches, it searches within your pc filesystem as well. Further catch? Ubuntu has no start button. List of common apps down the side and the rest? Well hey... just type it in the search bar and let Ama... sorry... Ubuntu find that for you.

Lol. Have you read any of the other license agreements? If you want commercial OS software, the licenses are all disturbing. Granted, they don't improve over time but if you actually read them I can't imagine you'd be happy for the rights you give away just to use a bit of software, and the lack of rights given to you in return.
