Luxury Tax increase

Looks like the luxury vehicle tax is increasing in next weeks budget from 25% to 33%. It is a pain in the arse for those of us that specifically need a 4wd for work.

There should be a No Dirt Tax, where if you buy a 4wd and don't drive it in the dirt you cop the extra 8%

I wonder how many dealers will drop their prices to keep under the threshold now. I have heard dealers selling the vehicle and their parts department seperately invoicing the accessories to keep everyone happy

I was just wondering wether it will take effect from 1 Jul 2008 or later in the year as it will effect quite a few people who are waiting on cars. :evil:

Whist I like your thinking Mav. I would rather see No Luxury Car Tax at all. It is just another tax that our Government uses to earn the "highest taxing nation in the western world" Title.

But don't you guys like your taxes going towards making Australia great? Don't you like it when Australia gives heavily corrupt countries like Indonesia a billion dollars because they suffered a tsunami, even though their stealing from our oceans continues unabated and they treat us with extreme contempt.... Then laugh as our hospitals crumble while we're in them getting "treated" by some off the planet foreign radical doctor who's also a passionate member of the Lada Niva club.......?

I of course, have no qualms about my taxes funding some whacked out, off the planet druggie shelter for pond scum who have no interest in contributing to society and expect the "rich" to feed the "poor".

The fact that I'm stripped of a sizable amount of my hard earned coin because I'm "average" does not leave me bitter. Oh no! When I line up in a ticket queue I'm never peeved at the following list-----> Drugged out whack jobs: $0.50, Leeching Bums --> $1.50, Stinking Dole Rorters $0.20, People We feel Sorry For $1.02, Fragwits That Simply Don't Give a Damn $0.40. Average Working Australian $660.99 paid in cash and has to give up seats to the nearest whack job.

Don't you like buying billions worth of fighter jets that are the wrong side of useless? If we paint them red maybe they'll go faster. Don't you like having warships that are "too expensive" to go patrolling the Patagonian Toothfish grounds in the Southern Ocean or our Fish stocks in our Northern waters? Our own fishing industry now needs to bow to Indonesia because our fish stocks are dead.

So they want to increase the luxury tax? 60K ain't what it used to be. Our own treasurer (former) clearly said a few years back that an income of 60K was "average". Why should "average" people be slugged a luxury tax??? It stinks like rotten meat! If our taxes could be put towards something useful I might feel a little better about it. At the moment though, I pay enough to the grim reap.... I mean tax man. Extra taxes simply means inept governing. Fix the incompetence, don't slug average people even more!

I think it hurts for average Joe looking for something around the $60K to $80K mark.

There was a comparison in the paper on a Porsche:

Pre Increase - $345K
Post Increase - $360K


If you can afford $345K then....

Our fish stocks are dead because our Commercial fishermen rape and pillage the oceans to the point of extinction. Our commercial Craypots have ruined vast sections of reef that now lay barren. If our Govt banned all exports of fish, our stocks would return.

On the Indonesians and their boats. Instead of the softly, softly approach, they should be shot at sea, the boat sunk on the spot. No one needs to know, certainly not the media.

Could not agree more. I have no problem in cars being taxed at a higher rate, being say $80K or $100K as a starting point.

Any more of this complaining and the bleeding heart communists will descend upon the forum and demand that they tax 4WD's because they're raping the country and contributing to the extinction of the numbat, wombat or some other f***ing bat.

While they're at it, they'll probably also put a special tax on blokes who just like 4WD's, for the same reason - because it will become policy that it will be unAustralian to drive anything but a Prius.

Most journos will have us believe that the elite constitutes anyone earning $50 grand a year or more and that a "luxury car" is anything that is less than five years old and doesn't blow smoke.

As for our fearless PM, it must be pretty handy to have a millionaire wife, to help take your mind off such unimportant things as money and paying the bills...
