Yes, well said. I would actually suggest on a much higher minimum amount of posts before you are able to advertise on PP. I know I am new to PP and have yet post many times on this forum but being a new Prado owner I also don't wish to sell the car. It is possible however as a new owner I may want to view items for sale while I am setting up the car.
Maybe you could still allow new members to advertise on the site but have a fee attached to help run and maintain this very informative and friendly site.

I also have to agree. I had tyres for sale (since withdrawn, change of circumstance) and felt awful, hoped that nobody thought I was using the site in that way. I would have been more than willing to contribute a fee towards the running and upkeep of this site.
I don't do ebay, it still feels like a scam, don't even really know how it works; so a for sale, and wanted, thread here are beneficial for me, so I hope it isn't gotten rid of.

But I would certainly understand if it was.

I agree there should be a small fee but this may be hard to manage.

Your right, it has become a joke lately with people not following the for sale (and some other minor) rules...

I think we will look at making it a 30 to 50 post minimum before the for sale section is allowed to be used.
And commercial nature sales will attract a "donation" fee towards the running of the server and bandwidth. One way to combat it all.

Not sure if this forum software can do it but a system whereby a credit point is obtained for a certain number of posts would seem like the way to go.

What I mean is that say after 20 posts you collect 1 credit which can be used to make a for sale thread. I know this can be done on some forum software but probably not with our current forum software.

The above would stop the flood gate effect whereby someone racks up the required number of post then the flood gates open and they swamp the for sale section.

i agree with the intent....however, we can't dissadvantage honest PP members (new &/or old) adding to their rig by looking out for mods or offloading old ones from previous ones etc.

Although a credit system of so many points gained per posts is good, it could encourage a fair amount of spam or useless posts just to get the required credit.

 Maybe consider setting up at the time of registering new members, the new member must tick a box to agree to the conduct etc - and if found by moderators to abuse the system then the moderator has the right to temporarily ban or limit posting. That way, the member who abuses the system made the choice to do so and PP cannot get bad flac.

Afterall guys (and gals) - The selling or buying area is good - how else are we to get rid of our Grandcr*ps?!?!?!

As far as idiots go, yeah - that goes for most things. Yrs ago they banned Jet Ski's at metro beaches which was rough for honest users. Now some idiots have taken to water skiing at midnight along the Murray and if it continues may provoke limiting or banning of the sport. im one for the regular adrenalin fix but c'mon...a little common sense (i guess common sense is also no longer common anymore).

I think these people are weak and should be baned!! :x :x

I have only been here for a short time but this would hve to be one of the most enjoyable and interesting sites for our hobbies and don't want to see it ruined. Have made some new friends and can't wait to meet and greet with other interstate members on our prados.

Keep up the good work mods and totaly agree

I too agree with the sentiments above. The two issues that strike me most have already been mentioned, but they are:

                      1. New members can't join to sell on PP, but genuine new members might want to buy from the for sale section, and I think that's fair.

                      2. The quota system may encourage unneccesary postings in order to reach the required amount and that is probably worse - as then the main forums get clogged with cr@p rather than just the For Sale forum. Not sure that I have a solution for you, but raising here is a healthy start to finding one. I just thought 15 posts is not too hard to achieve through posting crap, 30 requires a bit more effort and perhaps too much effort just to sell a {insert prado accessory}. But as Matt points out - so far the 15 post rule has been effective...so, I dunno :?:

Also, expecting that everyone WILL read all the rules and announcements might be too much. I agree that everyone joining up SHOULD read them, but the reality is that forums are common place these days and many people are members of many forums and it's so easy to join up and get involved. People pass over that sort of stuff - like ticking the "I've read and agree" box when you install new software. It should read it, but usually is not.

As members we generally have to support the decisions you Mods make on our behalf. It's a tough position to be in, but just remember that you guys do it voluntarily so don't let it chew you up too much - it is supposed to be fun

While I agree 100% with Matt and everyone else's comments this is not a simple one to sort out. I think the main point is whether a transaction is private or business (full time, part time or occasional).

I first joined PP earlier this year while I still had a 90 series but the real reason I joined was I was thinking about buying a 120 series and I wanted to check out what people who already owned one had to say. I am sure there are lots of members who may never contribute for a whole host of reasons. Too shy, not sure, etc etc. Let's face it only those who have the experience or the bits or mods can really comment on some of the topics. I therefore worry that posts will get filled with e-flatulence in the pursuit of a member getting the requisite number of posts so they can hit the for sale column.

I don't begrudge a member with few or no posts offering for sale something that they legitimately no longer needed or bought in error but I see red when there is an obvious commercial intent. There have been a few of these of late. PP is probably seen as a captive audience of 90 and 120 series owners.

I was unsure when I listed my 90 for sale here eventhough it was advertised elsewhere, but the thought of a PPer who might have wanted a good 90 TD prompted me to list it. The day it was sold I removed the post and external link.

Clearly it is up to the mods to work out rules and maintain the site and for one I don't envy that job. Visiting PP for me is a pleasure and I view only those posts that pique my interest, I would hate to have to read through every one to ensure the guidelines are met.

Anyway I will also say thanks to the moderators and members for a great site which helped me make up my mind about the 120 series and I hope that there is a solution in the wings that isn't too onerous.

Its a hard one to work out really.
If there is someone who wants to sell something that is directly Prado related as a private person, personally I don't mind if they put an add on as their first post as it may help us all in buying bits.
Maybe if it is non Prado related, then its a bit different and they need to have contributed to the group with a certain number of posts.
Commercial adds I think either need to pay in some way to help the costs to run the group or at least offer a good discount to the members that they could not have got in the normal way of things

                            cheers

In my opinion, if anyone under 100 posts wants to sell something, they could fill out a templet / form and submit it to the moderator / s and be scrutinized and have a use by date of say one week.
For those over 100 posts, they would have to do the same thing, but would be allowed to advertise for a full month or whatever.
All forsale threads would remain read only.
If the moderator does not feel that the for sale item is within guidelines, delete it.....
I would assume only genuine sellers would survive.
